What is a library page?

Library Pages are entry-level staff members who assist with the organization and maintenance of library materials. Their primary duties include shelving books, sorting materials, retrieving items for patrons, and keeping library collections orderly. Library Pages also help library staff with simple tasks and may answer basic questions from visitors. This position is ideal for those interested in gaining experience in a library setting and usually requires attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a library page, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Library Page, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with library cataloging systems and the Dewey Decimal Classification, along with basic computer skills, are typically required. Dependability, good communication, and a customer service mindset are valuable soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial for maintaining orderly collections, supporting efficient library operations, and providing a positive experience for patrons.

What are some common challenges faced by library pages and how can they be managed effectively?

Library Pages often work in fast-paced environments where attention to detail is crucial, especially when shelving materials according to classification systems like Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress. Keeping up with a steady flow of returned items and ensuring shelves remain organized can be challenging, particularly during busy periods. Effective time management and clear communication with librarians and other staff members help in addressing these challenges. Pages can also benefit from familiarizing themselves with the library’s layout and regularly reviewing shelving guidelines to maintain accuracy and efficiency.

Job description

Senior Frontend Developer

We're looking for a Senior Frontend Developer to build and scale the customer-facing experience across our direct-to-consumer eCommerce and subscription platform at Whisky Library. This role is responsible for delivering fast, intuitive, and high-quality web experiences that help customers discover, learn about, and purchase whiskey online.
You'll work closely with product, design, marketing, and backend engineering to transform ideas into polished, production-ready features. We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and takes pride in building products that customers love.
Who We Are
We are Whisky Library, a U.S.-based whiskey retail and subscription company building a modern way to discover and purchase bourbon.
The whiskey industry has remained largely unchanged for decades, and our mission is to create a better online experience for whiskey enthusiasts from first-time buyers to seasoned collectors. Our platform combines premium whiskey retail with a curated subscription experience, helping customers discover new bottles while learning more about the craft behind them.
We're a small, globally distributed team that values ownership, speed, and execution. We believe great ideas can come from anyone, and every team member is empowered to make meaningful contributions. We care deeply about quality, continuous improvement, and building products that make a measurable impact on both our customers and the business.
What You'll Do
Frontend Development

  • Build modern, responsive, and high-performance web applications using React and Next.js

  • Develop customer-facing features across our eCommerce store, subscription platform, customer portal, and internal tools

  • Translate Figma designs into clean, reusable, and maintainable code

  • Ensure a consistent experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices

  • Optimize page performance, Core Web Vitals, and overall frontend architecture

Product Development

  • Collaborate with product managers and designers to build intuitive customer experiences

  • Work closely with backend engineers to integrate APIs and third-party services

  • Participate in feature planning, technical discussions, and architecture decisions

  • Continuously improve application usability, accessibility, and performance

Code Quality & Engineering Excellence

  • Write clean, scalable, and well-tested code following modern engineering best practices

  • Review pull requests and contribute to maintaining high development standards

  • Refactor and improve existing codebases for maintainability and performance

  • Identify and resolve bugs before they impact customers

Collaboration & Ownership

  • Work cross-functionally with design, marketing, operations, and engineering teams

  • Take ownership of projects from planning through deployment

  • Proactively identify technical improvements and opportunities to improve customer experience

  • Contribute ideas that help improve development workflows and engineering processes

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional frontend development experience

  • Strong experience with React.js and Next.js

  • Excellent knowledge of TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3

  • Experience with modern styling frameworks such as Tailwind CSS

  • Experience consuming REST APIs and working with asynchronous data

  • Strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility

  • Experience using Git in collaborative development environments

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Shopify or Shopify Hydrogen

  • Experience building eCommerce or subscription-based applications

  • Familiarity with GraphQL

  • Experience with state management libraries such as Zustand or Redux

  • Understanding of performance optimization and Core Web Vitals

  • Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Playwright, or Cypress

  • Familiarity with Vercel deployment workflows and modern CI/CD pipelines

Success in This Role
You'll be successful if you:

  • Take full ownership of the features you build from development through deployment

  • Deliver high-quality code without sacrificing speed

  • Think beyond implementation and consider the overall customer experience

  • Proactively identify problems and propose scalable solutions

  • Collaborate effectively across engineering, design, and business teams

  • Continuously improve both the product and the engineering processes

Why Join Us?

  • Help build a category-defining DTC whiskey brand in a rapidly evolving industry

  • Work on meaningful products used by thousands of customers

  • High-impact role with direct influence on product direction and customer experience

  • Small, highly collaborative team where your work is immediately visible

  • Opportunity to own major features and contribute to technical architecture

  • Remote-first culture with significant autonomy and trust

  • Competitive compensation and opportunities for long-term growth

If you're passionate about building exceptional web experiences, enjoy solving challenging technical problems, and want to help redefine how people discover and enjoy whiskey online, we'd love to hear from you.
