Job description

Verrill is actively reviewing resumes for a Librarian based in either our Boston, Massachusetts or Portland, Maine office. As one of New England’s top full-service law firms, we are interested in hiring talented individuals to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Librarian provides comprehensive support for library operations, including traditional and Artificial Intelligence (AI)assisted research, reference services, training, collection management, and administrative functions. Key responsibilities include conducting indepth research across all practice areas; managing research request workflows; supporting the firm’s AIassisted legal research platforms and serving as a primary contact for routine platform inquiries; assisting with the development of AIrelated training, workflows, and verification best practices; maintaining and evaluating library resources; supporting contract negotiations; training new hires; administering the library catalog, distribution lists, book orders, and interlibrary loans; overseeing billing and budget tracking; and troubleshooting technical issues related to library resources.

This is a fulltime, exempt position requiring either a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (M.L.S./M.L.I.S.) from an ALAaccredited institution and/or a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABAapproved law school. The ideal candidate is a motivated selfstarter with at least five (5) years of relevant experience and demonstrated proficiency with legal research across print and online platforms, including primary and secondary sources and tools such as Westlaw, Practical Law, CoCounsel, Harvey, Bloomberg Law, Wolters Kluwer VitalLaw, RIA Checkpoint, and related services. Candidates should be knowledgeable in bibliographic maintenance standards, including Library of Congress subject headings, Online Computer Library Center, and Machine-Readable Cataloging records, and possess strong technological skills, including experience leveraging emerging technologies such as AI and data analytics to support legal research and workflows.
