Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (not to exceed twelve (12) months in duration from date of hire), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience, Microbial Ecology Laboratory, located in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $3,815 - $4,580/Mon.
DUTIES: Responsible for research support, including but not limited to, field sample collections, processing soil and plant samples, microbial samples (includes sterile techniques); generates high-throughput sequencing data (sample preparation, extracting DNA, PCR, and prepares samples for high-throughput sequencing). Responsible for growing, maintaining, and visualization (microscopy) of microbial cultures. Drives to the field to assist with fieldwork. Organizes data into publishable formats. Helps prepare reports, documentation, and other forms of media necessary for project success. General lab support responsibilities includes, but not limited to purchasing, preparing reagents, making media, and general lab organization, and general lab maintenance. Trains students on various techniques pertinent to their jobs. Performs other duties as assigned.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, or Microbiome related science.
EXPERIENCE One to three (1-3) years of experience in microbiome, microbial (including mycology), and soil sciences.
KNOWLEDGE Proficient theoretical and practical knowledge in laboratory and field experimental research in microbiome systems, microbial, science, and soil science.
ABILITIES & SKILLS Proficient ability to design and carry out simple experiments, prepare amplicon libraries for sequencing, analysis of microbiome data in QIIME2 and R platforms. Strong organizational skills. Must possess a valid driver's license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver's insurance equivalent to Hawai'i's No-Fault Driver's Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Conditions : Must complete UH training on Responsible Conduct in Research, General Laboratory Safety, General Biosafety, and Title IX training, and other required training immediately after hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS Ability to conduct fieldwork for field sampling, digging, carrying loads of up to 30 pounds of soils and plants to and from the field.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working across multiple labs/lab environments. Experience with technical work. Excellent communication with advisors and various levels of trainees in an academic setting.
