Job description

Description
The Systems & Technology Librarian will be a member of the Technology & Digital Initiatives (TDI) team and report to the Associate Director for Technology & Digital Initiatives (ADT). The Systems & Technology Librarian administers the Law Library's systems, including both software and hardware, and webpages, prepares reports and assessments, and contributes to special technology projects to support innovative initiatives taking place at the NYU School of Law in collaboration with the TDI team. The person hired in this position will play a vital role in the fosteringof a dynamic and sustainable future for technology within the Law Library.
Duties & Responsibilities
Systems Administration
• Serves as the primary lead, under the ADT's supervision, for the administration and maintenance of core library technologies-including the ILS, discovery tools, and authentication systems-and directs the planning and evaluation of system upgrades.
• Serves as primary administrator of the Law Library website in collaboration with Law IT and Communications Departments. Maintains the website pages and collaborates with other team members to ensure that site content is up-to-date. Edits webpages of other library-related systems.
• Leads the team's administration of other key software including, but not limited to, ILLiad, LibraryH3lp and SpringShare suite; and hardware such as scanners and circulating technology (e.g., noise-cancelling headphones, external laptop monitors, chargers, etc.).
Technology Support
• Oversees the Law Library's technology virtual help desk (current system is Jira), including supervision of virtual help desk workflows, user support, issue triage, and escalation of technical problems.
• Troubleshoots access and functionality issues involving library platforms, online resources, and related systems.
• Serves as a liaison to the Law School's Information Technology Department and other Departments.
Training, Support & Collaboration
• Provides training and support to librarians, staff, faculty, and students on library technologies, including the ILS and discovery layer. Develops instructional resources such as online guides, tutorials, and other learning materials to support technology use and learning.
• Works in partnership with others team members on systems-related, technology-related, and digitally-based services and projects.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to curate, author, and regularly update dynamic research guides (LibGuides), ensuring alignment with academic curricula and user needs.
Assessment
• Designs and conducts user-based assessments of library resources and systems.
• Fulfills internal and external data requests by retrieving metrics from library systems (including the ILS), inputting data across various platforms, and preparing custom assessments and documentation.
• Analyzes system usage, gathers feedback, and recommends improvements to enhance services and user experience.
Innovation
• Explores, implements, and supports AI and machine learning initiatives within library systems to enhance overall operations and digital services.
• Keeps up with and evaluates new library technologies, staying up-to-date on trends, technology, and resources.
• Evaluates and implements software and hardware to enhance the Law Library's services and operations. Researches and implements new tools to improve the Law Library's operations.
Professional Responsibility & Service
• Professional development and engagement.
• Service to the Law Library through participation on committees, task forces, working groups and other initiatives in support of Law Library's mission, goals, and strategic initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.
Classification
The person hired for this position will be classified as non-union, non-tenure track faculty (Continuing Contract Faculty/Assistant Librarian of Practice) and, after the completion of an initial contract term, is eligible for multi-year contracts.
Salary
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $80,000 - $130,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidates work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Graduate degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
• 4+ years experience in an academic or law library.
• High level of proficiency with library-related information technology applications.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
Technical Qualifications
• Significant experience with Alma + Primo or other library management systems and electronic resource management tools.
• Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Familiarity with at least one programming/markup language, such as XML, Perl, PHP, Python, or SQL.
• Familiarity with building, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting APIs.
• Awareness of technology trends in areas of responsibility.
