Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in processing new and discarded library materials

  • Manages circulation transactions

  • Shelves materials

  • Assists librarian in repairing books

  • Assists students and teachers in locating materials, and in the use of library technology and databases

  • Assists in preparation and implementation of special programs, inventory and library lessons

  • Assists in maintaining an attractive and organized learning environment

  • Prepares correspondence, reports, and other materials as requested

  • Performs other duties as assigned


Budgetary Responsibility:

N/A

Report Preparation:

Provides periodic and ad-hoc reports regarding services.


Equipment Operation:

Operates personal computer, basic office equipment and equipment related to education.


Contacts:

This position has contact within the school staff, parents and students.


Work Direction/Supervision:

This position provides work direction to parent volunteers and student helpers.

Decision Making:

Performs majority of work tasks independently. Supervisor is consulted in unusual or complex situations.

Physical Demands:

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, reach overhead and move up to 50 lbs unassisted.

Work Environment:

The employee regularly works in a school library. The employee may be exposed to mold and dust. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

Qualifications:
Some knowledge of library procedures and filing systems.Some knowledge of and interest in children's literature.Some knowledge of and skill in using audiovisual equipment, office equipment and computers and/or the ability to learn use of equipment quickly with some training.Demonstrated ability to read, alphabetize, file, type and perform basic clerical tasks and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and the public.Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Additional Job Requirements:

High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
