Description


Working under the direction of the Assistant Director of Public Services, the Librarian III-Slidell Branch Manager is responsible for the daily operations at the branch including scheduling and supervising staff, ensuring the facility is maintained, and providing patron services. Along with performing administrative duties, this position requires the branch manager to work any staff position as needed. In addition to stated responsibilities, the branch manager must also perform any other tasks that are necessary for the successful operation of the branch. 

Requirements

Essential Job Functions

Training of new employees and re-training of existing staff in policies, procedures and revisions thereof

Arranging staff schedules to provide optimum coverage and service

Encouraging, motivating, coaching, disciplining and evaluating employees

Ensuring accuracy and timely submission of payroll and leave records

Maintaining knowledge of library policies and procedures

Interpreting library policies, resolving staff and patron complaints and problems

Performing ongoing collection development

Notifying proper persons of maintenance and repair needs of building and grounds

Plans and coordinates programs with Adult Programming Coordinator

Proctors exams

Having daily oversight of all branch library functions, ensuring effective service to patrons and efficient use of library resources

Performs other duties and assignments as designated by Administration

Thorough knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques, and procedures

Ability to plan, lead, and supervise the work of others

Tact and courtesy

Ability to work in a team environment

Ability to speak effectively in public

Good professional judgement

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting. The noise level is generally quiet.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to lift at least 25 pounds, push, bend, and reach as needed

Must have the physical stamina to stand for long periods of time

Education, Training, Experience

Master's degree in library science issued by an ALA-accredited library program is required

Minimum of three years of librarian experience

Minimum of two years of experience managing a library facility of comparable size to the Slidell branch

Must have a valid driver's license
