Job Announcement
The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals to join our team as a Library Assistant (Courier). This is a full-time, non-exempt position with benefits. The scheduled work hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In this role, you will serve as the Chandler Public Library's courier driver, responsible for transporting library materials between branches, loading and unloading library materials and bins, and safely lifting and carrying materials throughout the workday. This position requires the ability to frequently lift and carry heavy bins, often weighing up to 50 pounds. In addition to courier duties, you will support the library's Circulation team as needed. Circulation responsibilities include both public-facing customer service at service desks and behind-the-scenes operations such as processing materials, managing holds, and other tasks that keep library collections moving efficiently.
The primary work location for this position will be the Chandler Downtown Library, with the possibility of working at other library locations as needed.
Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Who we are looking for
Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone to perform a wide variety of general technical and clerical library work, including circulation, customer service, transportation of items between branches, directional/basic reference assistance, call center coverage, and basic, processing-level collection duties. This job differs in that it does not perform professional or paraprofessional library work associated with specialized degrees, training, or library functions and programs.

Minimum Qualifications
• A High School Diploma or GED; and
• 1 year of customer service experience involving frequent public contact; and
• A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Desired Qualifications
• Recent experience working in a public library setting.
• Familiarity with automated library systems.
• Proficiency in using computer software, internet resources, and digital tools, including e-books.
• Recent experience in a high-volume customer service environment with the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced setting.
This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.
The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
