Job Summary: This is a part-time non-exempt position requiring at least 2 hours per week. The position requires some variable hours and on call response after regular business hours to meet the needs of the Church including some weekend, holiday and evening work for weekend Masses and other events such as Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.ย ย 

Ministerial Character

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Catherine of Siena Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at St. Catherine of Siena Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS: ย To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and /or ability required for this position:

  • Ability to:ย 
compose, arrange, improvise music and to accompany music ministry volunteers, cantors, choristers and other instrumentalists on the piano and organ; recruit, screen, train, assist and supervise music ministry volunteers to serve as cantors, choristers and instrumentalist at liturgies and other events; research and select ย music consistent with the catechetical content of the applicable Liturgy of the Word or the theme or subject matter of any event; coordinate and schedule musicians, choristers and cantors according to seasonal and liturgical needs and the preparation and delivery of planning documentation for each liturgy or event; and ensure adequate and regular time for rehearsal and direction prior to each liturgy or event including personal instrumental and vocal direction when necessary or appropriate.
  • Ability to organize and maintain the sound equipment and musical instruments andย to arrange with the Business Administrator for routine repair, maintenance and replacement of ย the same and to organize and implement routine and extraordinary equipment and instrumentsย setups and arrangements
  • Ability to develop and maintain a music and choral library including appropriate subscriptions, licenses and copyrights.
  • Ability to provide support and assistance to volunteer choral directors, including : consultation regarding library and repertoire development and resources and sound and other Church equipment;ย providing music resources as may be reasonably requested; and ย serving as a substitute choral director as the need arises.ย 
  • Ability to manage and supervise the music ministry within the constraints of budget, liturgical season and the expectations of the Church Community.
  • Ability ย to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with the Church Community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :

1. A degree in music or equivalent education and/or experience;

2. ย ย Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

4. Possession of ย a valid Texas Driver's License.

Working Conditions:

All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.ย 

The Parish is an at-will employer.

All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.

Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.

Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.

Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.ย 

Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.

May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to off-site locations.

Travelling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
