[POOL] Library Aide

Position Title: [POOL] Library Aide

Department: Library

Appointment Type: Part-Time Hourly

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: Albany Campus, Albany, OR

Salary Grade: 10

Salary Rate: $15.99 per hour.

Job Summary: This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for "[POOL]" positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. If/when a position becomes available, the College will review applications from this pool, and interview candidates whose qualifications best match the specific opening. Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain their active status in the pool. Provides general assistance to patrons at the circulation desk.

Essential Duties: Assists in circulation services by checking out library materials to library users, checking in and shelving library materials, straightening and inventorying library shelves, searching for materials, accepting interlibrary loan and reserve requests, and registering new library users. Receive shipments from other libraries in the Linn Libraries Consortium. Prepare and route materials to other libraries in the Linn Libraries Consortium and also to LB instructional centers. Answers routine questions about the library requiring basic knowledge of library operations and systems, computers and photocopiers, and location of materials. Refers complex reference questions and problems to a librarian. Assists in maintaining order in the library by tidying, dusting, cleaning surfaces, refilling printer/photocopier paper, and changing printer cartridges. Assists as needed in technical services by processing library materials (applying stamps, labels, barcodes, etc.) disposing of withdrawn materials, and repairing damaged materials. Assists library staff with other duties as required. May cover basic library operations while staff attend meetings.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Position involves light to medium work including walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, carrying and lifting of light weight materials (less than 10 pounds) Requires pushing of book carts (about 50 pounds). Work is performed in a library setting with minimal exposure to health and safety hazards. There is frequent customer contact. Considerable time is spent working at a computer.

Education and Experience - Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Requires general office and computer skills. Requires the ability to independently perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively. Requires the ability to operate library equipment including personal computer, printer, photocopier, book scanner, etc. Requires the ability to read, understand and follow well-defined policies and procedures relating to job duties. Requires the ability to provide effective customer service and communicate with patrons and staff in a manner which meets their needs and reflects positively on the library and the College.
