Job description

Archivist and Circulation Assistant Librarian
The Brearley School, an independent girls' school serving over 786 students K-12, welcomes candidates for an Archivist and Circulation Assistant Librarian beginning in August, 2026.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assessing, preserving, and maintaining the school's historical documents, objects, and oral histories
  • Creating and maintaining collection guides, computer archives, and databases
  • Organizing and classifying archival records for ease of use
  • Collaborating with the school community to acquire new materials
  • Curating archival materials for themed displays throughout the school buildings, including those in preparation for the school's upcoming 150th anniversary
  • Assisting at the library desks with circulation needs
  • Processing and preparing new books for circulation
  • Maintaining the library space
  • Participate in library events

The ideal candidate will:
  • Hold a MLS or have the equivalent experience; archives certificate preferred
  • Have experience in managing an archive and working with digital materials
  • Keep up to date on archival standards and best practices
  • Be proficient with Follett Library Circulation software and archive-specific applications such as ArchivesSpace
  • Have a commitment to the education of girls
  • Understand the needs of students at various stages of intellectual and personal development
  • Demonstrate curiosity, creativity and collaboration
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Be collegial and enjoy working collaboratively

Salary
In 2026-2027, the total salary for this position ranges from $60,000 to $70,000 depending on experience.
