General purpose: The Evening/Weekend Access Services Assistant engages in the full range of Access Services functions, including managing the service desk, supervising student workers, and overseeing the physical full range, library space.
Summary of Essential Functions:
- Assists with Access Service functions on evenings and weekends, including the service desk, student workers, and overseeing the physical library space.
- Follows library opening and closing procedures as scheduled.
- Assists with technical processing, collection maintenance, and preservation.
- Serves as backup for Access Services staff.
- Assists with circulation of library items, fines, stacks maintenance, ILL, Reserves, and other related tasks.
- Assists with pulling, processing, and expiring holds.
- Supervises student employees when covering the Access Services Desk.
- Responsible for covering the desk when student staff are unavailable.
- Answers inquiries concerning overdue materials, recalls, and bills.
- Assists in shelving library materials, shelf reading, and maintaining the appearance of the library collection.
- Reshelves special collections materials as needed.
- Processes books, including wrapping and labeling.
- Collaborate with staff, students, and faculty to develop and provide student-facing programming.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work flexibly, independently, and collaboratively with colleagues, staff, faculty, and students fostering a collegial work environment that encourages growth, inclusivity, innovation, curiosity, and rigor.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Customer Service Experience
- At least 1 year of library experience
- Willingness to learn and flexibility in schedule
- Exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to set and keep deadlines
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Background in art, art history, or design
- Demonstrated experience with promoting social justice, equity, and diversity
- Supervisory experience

- Position will require evening and/or weekend work
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal, but ear protection is required at times.
- Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans; Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
