The Medical Librarian will have primary responsibility for leading the IHS Library's outreach initiatives to the entire HMSOM, and will also support curricular instruction in the areas of information management, information mastery, and evidence-based medicine at the HMSOM. This position will be part of the HMSOM's information mastery team that is responsible for the delivery of course content throughout the entire curriculum. Should be experienced Health Sciences librarians, having worked in an undergraduate or graduate medical/health sciences setting and/or having experience in clinical or hospital librarianship.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Medical Librarian at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Coordinate outreach to promote awareness of Library services and resources, including email marketing, social media posting, and other outreach initiatives.
  • Development and maintenance of library toolkits to support the HMSOM curriculum on the IHS Library website.
  • Teaching and support of curricular instruction in the areas of information management, information mastery, and evidence-based medicine at the HMSOM.
  • Planning of in-person and library virtual activities and workshops.
  • Provide literature searching support, document delivery, and general library support for students and faculty.
  • Collaborate with teaching faculty on assignment and course content.
  • Assists the Associate Dean with strategic library initiatives.
  • Assist in the planning, development, provision, and assessment of a cohesive program of library services, collections, and strategic information literacy initiatives.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information studies.
  • Knowledge of Health Sciences library resources and services.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience delivering library instruction to adult learners in a health sciences setting, including the design of course materials and delivery of presentations.
  • Strong health sciences database searching skills.
  • A strong understanding of information literacy & evidence-based medicine principles and practice.
  • Skilled with information technologies and their application to research and teaching.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Experience working within an undergraduate or graduate, medical education environment, or in clinical or hospital settings.
  • Knowledge of trends in medical education.
  • Experience in library outreach services.
