Job description

Jefferson Parish Civil Service is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Purpose of Announcement EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL TWO (2) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.

Kind of Work Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide a variety of technical and clerical library services for the patrons of the library. Employee provides assistance in the day-to-day operations of the assigned library. Provides reader's advisory assistance and reference service to patrons, including database assistance.

Assists with planning and conducting programs for children and adults. Communicates with patrons in person and on the telephone to determine informational needs and to explain library policies and procedures. Registers borrowers; issues library cards.

Checks library materials in and out using the library's automated library system; assists patrons in use of self-check machines; resolves circulation problems; collects lost book payments, overdue fines, and fees. Fills requests for reserved materials; routes materials to other locations; receives materials from other locations. Assists patrons in signing up for and using public computers, various software programs, and the Internet.

Some vacancies require driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference on those vacancies. NOTE: Work schedules include evening and weekend assignments; employee may also be required to adjust work hours or report to and work at the East and West bank locations as duties require or as directed. Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
