An assistant librarian works closely with the main librarian to manage a library. Job Summary
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, non-tenure track Scholarly Communications Librarian and Librarian Assistant Professor faculty position in the University Libraries with a preferred start date of November 2026. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia and will serve the Kennesaw State University community.
The Scholarly Communications Librarian develops and supports a sustainable scholarly communication ecosystem at Kennesaw State University by working collaboratively with research-supporting teams across the Libraries and campus partners. The Scholarly Communication Librarian will develop and advance a coordinated program of services, guidance, and education that strategically supports the dissemination, visibility, and responsible use of Kennesaw State University's research and teaching outputs.
Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and promote strategic scholarly communication services and programs; serve as an advocate for national and international issues, policies, and sustainable models of scholarly communication.
- Serve as an advisor on trends, legislation, policies, evolutionary changes, and best practices regarding affordable course content, open educational practices, and open licensing; develop methods for assessing and reporting usage, impact, benefits, effectiveness, and relevance of OER and affordable course content.
- Advise faculty on fair use, intellectual property rights, and copyright status and compliance for scholarly activities; assist faculty in review of license agreements.
- Manage the University Libraries LibGuide collection of affordable and open educational resources, including the maintenance of relevant statistical data and documentation.
- Provide expert guidance, consultation, and strategic support for the dissemination, impact, and responsible use of open course materials.
- Promote the adoption of open course materials and systems to mitigate the university's reliance on traditional textbooks and other licensed content; collaborate with teaching faculty and instructional designers in the identification, adoption, creation, and assessment of open and affordable course content; assist with integrating affordable materials into faculty curriculum, D2L, or other course settings.
- Assess and understand trends and best practices in library and industry-based research on emerging uses of artificial intelligence in open education and scholarly communication.
- Engage in service to the University Libraries, the campus, and/or the profession.
- Participate in scholarship, research, and/or creative activity; contribute to the development of the library profession and/or subject-specific discipline through scholarship, presentations, and publications.
- Because our libraries are open 7 days a week and in the evenings, this position will occasionally be required to work during these times to serve the needs of the students. This position will work on both the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses.
Required Qualifications
- Terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, appropriate to a contemporary research-intensive library, such as an MLIS, or other related equivalent terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent.
- A minimum of 1 year of academic library (i.e., reference, instruction) experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working as a librarian in an academic library, related institution, or equivalent experience.
- Prior scholarly communication, research impact, or copyright support experience.
- Copyright training and/or certification (i.e., CopyrightX, Creative Commons).
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- A record of professional service.
- A record of developing scholarship within academic librarianship or a subject specialty.
