Job description

The Batch and Furnace Supervisor is responsible for providing direct supervision and leadership of the batch mixing and delivery systems, furnace operations, and lehr operations. This individual partners with the Forming Department and must possess the technical competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the overall performance of the batch, furnace, and lehr operations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supply the Forming Department with consistent, properly conditioned glass flow while maintaining good glass color and maximizing melting fuel efficiency
  • Manage the forehearths and the production of various colors in the colorant forehearths
  • Ensure that all ware made in forming is properly annealed and heat treated as scheduled
  • Supply forming with a steady flow of cracked hydrogen gas
  • Maintain an uninterrupted flow of uniformly weighed and mixed batch material to the furnaces
  • Analyze and correct any production problems that develop
  • Maintain consistent furnace and forehearth operations at the desired temperatures during changing load conditions as determined by the production schedule
  • Supply the furnaces with the required amount of mixed batch to maintain a level flow of glass to all forming machines
  • Lead and motivate the hourly work force through communication, teaching and development.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma/equivalent required; Associates degree preferred
  • Supervisory experience is a plus
  • Must be able to pass respirator testing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in a demanding and fast paced environment
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and multitask effectively

  • The ability to effectively problem-solve

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be willing to work swing shift
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment (noise, hot, cold, dusty environment)
  • Respirator Fit and Pulmonary Function test required
  • Successful performance of Ishihara Plates vision test for color perception
