Job description

Overview
Under supervision of the Laboratory Animal Sciences Manager, develops and implements the QC coordination of all studies that Laboratory Animal Sciences works on. Works closely with technical staff, Study Coordinators, QC leads and Study Directors to meet specific milestones as they relate to each project's needs. Will work closely with Laboratory Animal Sciences technicians on training, generating and completing documentation and individual training goals/needs.
Qualifications
One (1) to two (2) years of post-high school education (college, university or technical school) in a science curriculum and three (3) to four (4) years of experience in a research, commercial or hospital laboratory, with a minimum of 3 years of animal experience, or equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
Must have demonstrated ability to successfully perform a variety of laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments
Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field and leadership experience preferred. ALAT level, LAT level and LATG certification is preferred. Incumbent is encouraged to sit for ALAT and/or LAT within 12 months as a level 3 technician. LAT and/or LATG within the first 24 months is encouraged
Requires strong professional-level written and verbal communication skills, excellent problem-solving and decision making skills, excellent judgement the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have the ability to lead and train staff and students. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment. Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.
