Job description

POSITION TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - GENERAL CURRICULUM / EBD - 190 DAYS LOCATION: Newnan Crossing Elementary AVAILABLE:  26/27 JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide leadership to effectively plan, coordinate and implement programs of instruction that ensure students opportunities to reach their highest social, emotional and academic potential. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated. Select and present materials required in the teaching assignment within the framework of the content limitations of state and system curriculum guides. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students. Develop and implement classroom technology which may relate to the use of audio, video, graphics, research technologies and other tools to facilitate learning. Prepare for classes assigned and show evidence of preparation upon request of principal or designee. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Provide adequate background information and materials when substitute teacher is to assume responsibilities. Maintain satisfactory attendance defined by system or local school handbook. Comply with conditions stated in contract of employment. Comply with the federal, state and local board of education requirements for the development of educationally appropriate instruction. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and work cooperatively with all staff members in attaining school goals and objectives. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Attend staff, department, team, or grade level meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Participate as required in the appropriate state annual evaluation process. Perform such additional responsibilities as may be assigned by the building administrators. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES ARE AS FOLLOWS:   Abides by the mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Evaluates students with disabilities and gives recommendations for a prescriptive program. Develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal requirements. Monitors progress on IEP goals frequently and makes appropriate changes in the student's education program. Participates in and provides consultation to the Student Support Team (SST) and the IEP team. Collaborates with staff members and parents regarding the academic achievement and functional performance of students. Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information. Participates in required district training for Mindset Safety Management - Deescalation and utilizes techniques according to individual student needs. Provides consultation to other staff members concerning the unique needs of students with disabilities and appropriate interventions. Follows all procedural safeguards and documents adherence in an appropriate manner. REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING: Minimum of bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and state required certification for Special Education General Curriculum. Ability and willingness to participate in required district training for Mindset Safety Management - Deescalation Training and to utilize learned techniques according to individual student needs. REQUIRED SKILLS: Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and direct the implementation of a comprehensive classroom instructional program for students with disabilities. Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, and competency in counseling and evaluating students with disabilities. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Successful teacher training and/or teaching experiences at the level to which assigned. Experience teaching students with emotional and behavior disorders is preferred. Mindset Safety Management deescalation training and experience is preferred. Experience with Infinite Campus student information system and online GOIEP platform is preferred.
