Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
The candidate will come to UTMB to work on activities that are planned as part of our funded Training and Research on Arboviruses and Zoonoses in Nigeria and Sierra Leone (TRAIN) program.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
  • Receive extensive research training from UTMB faculty mentors.
  • Performs laboratory work or research pertaining to the training program, under the direction of responsible faculty.
  • Develop and supervise execution of a research proposal.
  • Analyze research results, prepare manuscripts for publication, mentor fellow lab members.
  • Applicants will also have opportunities to lead or collaborate on projects.
  • Library research as needed.
  • Adheres to all UTMB rules and regulations.
  • Adheres to internal controls for department.
  • Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree and enrolled in a degree-granting program of a university
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
MS or enrolled in a MD/PhD program and experience in either one of these areas: immunology, virology, cellular biology, molecular biology, microbiology, epidemiology, environmental sciences or in a related field. Experience with infectious diseases is preferred.
EQUIPMENT:
Varies with the specific research project associated with the student training.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Classroom, library, laboratory and/or clinical environment; may be exposed to occupational hazards found in a biomedical research laboratory and/or clinical environment.
