Job description

The Minnesota Asphalt Pavement Association (MAPA) is searching for a dedicated leader to serve as Executive Director of the association. The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Association and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and daily operations of the organization. This position works closely with the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, staff, members, and industry stakeholders to advance the Association's mission, support member needs, and ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the organization. Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership and Governance
  • Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the Association in alignment with its mission, strategic plan, and Board priorities
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and President, providing regular updates, recommendations, and organizational guidance
  • Support Board governance activities, strategic planning, and policy development

Financial and Operational Management
  • Develop and manage the Association's budget, financial reporting, contracts, and operational resources
  • Oversee office operations, technology, vendor relationships, and other business functions to ensure efficient operations

Staff Leadership
  • Hire, supervise, and develop staff, establishing priorities and ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing work environment

Membership and Industry Relations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members, industry partners, agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Identify member needs and ensure delivery of relevant programs, services, and communications

Programs, Advocacy, and Industry Engagement
  • Oversee educational programming, member services, industry initiatives, and promotional activities
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry developments, representing the Association in advocacy and external relations efforts
  • Participate in local, regional, and national committees, organizations, and professional activities that support the Association's mission

Qualification and Education
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, association management, public policy, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership or executive management experience
  • Experience with staff management, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities
  • Ability to build relationships with members, board leaders, legislators, agencies, and industry partners
  • Financial management and budgeting experience
  • Ability to analyze complex industry issues and recommend solutions
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills

Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Expertise in road construction industry and construction materials preferred
  • Experience in trade associations, nonprofit leadership, construction, engineering, transportation, or related industries preferred

Working Conditions and Environment
  • Travel is required
  • Primarily a general office environment, but onsite hosting of events and conferences is required
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as events require
  • Ability to lift and carry items for an event; items generally weigh less than 50 lbs

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $125,000 to $175,000, depending on experience. MAPA offers a generous benefits package including health care, paid time off, SEP IRA, and other benefits.
