CAMPUS SECURITY GUARD

Position Status: Part-Time Temporary / *Not to exceed 29 hours/week

JOB SUMMARY
The Campus Security Guard performs general security duties to help maintain a safe and secure environment for the campus community. Working closely with campus police, a Campus Security Guard monitors campus grounds, responds to incidents, and assists in enforcing safety policies and procedures.
The Campus Police Department operates Monday through Sunday, and security guards may be scheduled to work shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. during these days.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Campus Patrol and Safety (75%)
  • Patrol campus areas on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle to prevent and report crime.
  • Secure campus buildings and inspect rooms and grounds for safety, maintenance, and property issues.
  • Provide security for events occurring on campus and assist with community related programs as needed.
  • Help implement safety policies to maintain a secure campus environment.

Reporting and Legal Support (20%)
  • Keep daily activity logs and prepare reports (e.g., incident reports) for supervisors.
  • Testify in court or legal proceedings when required.
  • Maintain and use issued security equipment (e.g., keys; flashlight; department cell phone; radio, etc.) properly.

Additional Support Duties (5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT
Work activities may involve the use of standard office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, telephones, and other related devices. Security guards are also required to operate departmental equipment, including but not limited to flashlights, radios, cell phones, and campus security vehicles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). to create documents, manage data, prepare reports, and support daily operations, as needed.
  • Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the physical layout of the campus.
  • Knowledge of security practices.
  • Knowledge of campus and local resources for emergency situations.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to operate campus security vehicles and required equipment and tools as needed.

JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License.

JOB LOCATION
This on-site position is based in the Campus Police Department located on the main campus of Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee.
