Job description

This position is intended for individuals who are either non-USNH undergraduate students or those not currently pursuing an undergraduate degree, and are seeking a pathway into a technology career.

This is a year-round, non-benefited internship position at the UNH InterOperability Lab. The UNH InterOperability Lab (UNH-IOL) has been testing Networking and Communications since 1988. Fully owned by the University of New Hampshire, the lab receives 100% of its funding from commercial companies in exchange for professional and testing services. Testing services include areas such as Ethernet, xDSL, Storage, Wireless, and Internet Protocol (including IPv6).

Under general direction, test technicians are responsible for:

  • Working with industry professionals across multiple areas of technology

  • Providing in-person support to remote personnel including device setup and configuration

  • Performing conformance and interoperability testing on commercially available and prototype products

  • Troubleshooting, debugging, and general support during test cycles

  • Reviewing, updating, and working with IOL Test Suites

  • Writing detailed conformance and interoperability reports

  • Working hours available are typically Mon-Fri from 8AM-6PM (set your schedule within these hours)

Training is provided on the job, and pathway opportunities are available.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or equivalent

  • Available to work at least 12 hours/week or more depending on academic status

  • Must also pass a pre-employment background check.

Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Familiarity with a programming language (i.e. python, C/C++, Java, Visual Basic)

  • Familiarity with consumer networking technologies (i.e. setting up a home wired/wireless network)

  • Technical writing proficiency

  • Ability to work both independently as well as a member of a team

Compensation Pay Range:

Starting pay is $12-$14+/hr (based on experience). We offer unique bonus opportunities as well as bi-annual performance-based raises.
