How much do legal funding jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 10, 2026, the average yearly pay for legal funding in the United States is $55,419.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $40,000.00 and $62,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is legal funding?

Legal funding, also known as lawsuit funding or litigation financing, is a financial service that provides plaintiffs or law firms with cash advances to cover living expenses or legal costs while waiting for a lawsuit to resolve. The funding is typically non-recourse, meaning repayment is only required if the case is won or settled in the claimant's favor. Legal funding can help individuals who might otherwise be pressured to settle early due to financial constraints. It is important to understand the terms and fees before accepting legal funding, as costs can vary widely among providers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the legal funding industry, and why are they important?

To thrive in legal funding, you need a strong understanding of legal processes, financial analysis, and risk assessment, often supported by a background in law or finance. Familiarity with case management software, underwriting tools, and compliance regulations is essential. Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills help you work effectively with clients and legal professionals. These competencies are crucial for accurately evaluating cases, managing risk, and building trust in a highly regulated and competitive field.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in legal funding, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in legal funding often encounter challenges such as evaluating the merits of cases with limited information, managing risk, and maintaining compliance with evolving regulations. To address these issues, teams typically rely on thorough due diligence processes, close collaboration with attorneys, and ongoing training in legal finance best practices. Building strong relationships with law firms and keeping up-to-date with industry standards can also help professionals navigate the complexities of this dynamic field.

  • Prepare booked files for electronic scanning and coordinate with Funding leadership.
  • Send and track outgoing department mail, including returned finance packages.
  • Manage the collection of stipulations and funding documents to meet requirements.
  • Maintain and update client information in CRM and other tracking systems.
  • Organize, compile, and distribute all necessary documentation to fund assigned transactions.
  • Collaborate with Account Executives to ensure funding packages meet all criteria.
  • Verify pricing, terms, and fee structures for accuracy.
  • Support department projects and contribute to continuous process improvement.

What We’re Looking For

A successful Funding Coordinator will have the ability to juggle multiple priorities, communicate effectively, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks. The ideal candidate is resourceful, proactive, and thrives in a team-oriented environment.

Key Traits & Skills:

  • Takes initiative and solves problems creatively.
  • Naturally organized and methodical in approach.
  • Thrives under deadlines and manages multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent follow-through — never lets details slip through.
  • Service-oriented with a positive, “how can I help?” attitude.
  • Team player with a sense of accountability and professionalism.
  • Comfortable communicating with people at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Able to handle feedback, stay composed under pressure, and maintain a sense of humor.
  • Dependable, consistent, and committed to long-term growth within the organization.

Typical Activities

  • Gathering and analyzing data to ensure accuracy of funding documentation.
  • Organizing and prioritizing workload to meet company deadlines.
  • Entering, recording, and maintaining electronic records.
  • Making informed decisions and solving problems efficiently.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, partners, and internal teams.
  • Communicating clearly in person, via email, and by phone.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting Rate: $27/hour (could be higher depending on experience)
  • Schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Hybrid Work Arrangement
  • Bonuses: Based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Benefits After 90 Days: Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off: Includes PTO and all major holidays
  • Continuing Education: Support for training and development related to your job duties

Performance Expectations

  • Uphold company policies and values in every interaction.
  • Arrive prepared and ready to perform at a high standard.
  • Support the mission and vision of the organization by maintaining quality, accuracy, and integrity in all work.

If you’re a dependable, people-oriented professional who loves keeping things organized and moving efficiently, we’d love to hear from you.
