Job description

The Legal Senior Bookkeeper / Assistant Controller serves as a critical pillar of the firm’s business office. This role is designed for a detail-oriented financial professional who thrives in a versatile environment—balancing high-stakes fiduciary management with the operational "front-of-house" flow of a prestigious law office. You will manage the firm’s internal accounting, ensure rigorous IOTA compliance, and oversee the billing staff while acting as a primary professional point of contact for clients and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Fiduciary Oversight

  • Trust Accounting: Maintain and reconcile law firm Trust/IOTA accounts in strict compliance with applicable Bar rules and regulatory requirements.
  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Perform comprehensive bank and credit card reconciliations; maintain the firm’s general ledger and all accounting records.
  • Capital Flow: Manage accounts payable, coordinate partner distributions, and handle client retainers and funds with absolute precision.
  • Staff Supervision: Oversee and mentor the Bookkeeper/Billing Specialist, ensuring the accuracy of collections and billing cycles.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3–5 years of dedicated bookkeeping and accounting experience specifically within a law firm environment.
  • Legal Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of Trust/IOTA accounting and legal billing procedures.
  • Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive financial information with the highest level of discretion.
  • Technical Proficiency: * Big Plus: Hands-on experience with CARET 
    • Plus: Proficiency in QuickBooks and Timeslips.
