Performance Validation, Inc is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to partner with our team and provide support with the building delivery process from the design phase through post occupancy. The senior commissioning professional works closely with a wide range of individuals including building occupants, maintenance staff, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers and building inspectors.
The Senior Building Commissioning Engineer role is deemed a safety sensitive position. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and a criminal background check is required.
The activities would include:
  • Consult with the client to develop scope and project requirements.
  • Develop commissioning specifications and perform reviews of the system designs and submittals.
  • Develop commissioning plans including functional performance test scripts.
  • Conduct commissioning coordination meetings.
  • Verify proper system installation and performance. Track issues to resolution.
  • Documentation of all commissioning-related activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS degree in engineering or other related field (extensive experience and demonstrated commissioning related skills may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree).
  • At least 5 years of commissioning, building design/construction, or facilities management related experience with an emphasis on HVAC and control systems.
  • Commissioning certification required (Building Commissioning Certification Board or ASHRAE) or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • PE is desirable.
  • LEED accreditation is desirable.
  • Prior experience with commercial energy audits and/or energy modeling is desirable.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Proven project management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Must interact confidently with clients, other contractors, and employees.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and high attention to detail
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of control theory and building automation systems including packaged controls, a broad understanding of all building systems, and the building delivery process (design/construction).
  • Familiarity with USGBC LEED and sustainability.

This position is located in Tacoma, Washington and may require up to 25% travel.
