Senior Product Design Engineer
An established and growing manufacturer within the commercial LED lighting industry is seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer to support an existing portfolio of specification-grade lighting products used across North America.
This role is ideal for an engineering professional with experience in product design, sustaining engineering, lighting controls integration, product lifecycle management, and manufacturing support. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally to drive product improvements, maintain engineering standards, ensure compliance, and support ongoing innovation within a technically advanced product environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support sustaining engineering for existing commercial LED lighting products.
  • Lead product improvement, cost reduction, component substitution, and lifecycle management initiatives.
  • Maintain engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, product configurations, and ERP product data.
  • Support manufacturing documentation, production readiness, and product handoff activities.
  • Participate in new product development reviews with a focus on manufacturability, compliance, controls integration, and production support.
  • Provide technical support to Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Production teams.
  • Support integration, testing, and implementation of wired and wireless lighting control systems.
  • Assist with UL, CSA, LM79, LM80, and other lighting compliance and certification requirements.
  • Evaluate new technologies, materials, components, and manufacturing methods to improve product performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to resolve technical issues and support continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or Product Development.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and strong knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience with fabricated metals, extrusions, castings, welding, plastics, and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of commercial LED lighting systems, thermal management, and lighting performance metrics.
  • Experience with interior and exterior lighting fixture design and IP-rated enclosure requirements.
  • Familiarity with wired and wireless lighting controls.
  • Knowledge of UL 1598, LM79, LM80, and related lighting compliance standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Revit, AGi32, or SolidWorks Composer.
  • Background in commercial, architectural, industrial, or specification-grade lighting products.
  • Experience with ERP systems, product configuration, and product lifecycle management.
