Job Description:
The Department of Chemical Engineering in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida is soliciting applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Master Lecturer (working title Assistant/Associate/Full Instructional Professor) in Chemical Engineering.
The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Florida seeks candidates who are passionate about teaching, mentoring, and preparing students for professional success within Chemical Engineering. The department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate degree program and emphasizes instruction that connects engineering fundamentals with modern industrial practice, professional problem solving, and workplace readiness. The primary facilities of the department are currently undergoing a major renovation and modernization, reflecting continued investment in instructional spaces, laboratories, and the long-term future of the program.
Applicants from a broad range of backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including recent Ph.D. graduates interested in instructional careers, as well as experienced industry professionals seeking to transition into higher education. We are particularly interested in candidates who can bring an industry-informed perspective to the classroom and help shape the continued improvement and evolution of our undergraduate and master's programs.
Responsibilities for the successful candidate include teaching required and/or elective undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Chemical Engineering; developing instructional materials and course content; mentoring and advising students; participating in curriculum development and assessment activities; and collaborating with faculty and staff to strengthen the undergraduate and master's educational experience.
Expected Salary:
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
Preferred:
Preferred Qualifications include demonstrated interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; ability or potential to teach core Chemical Engineering courses; strong communication and interpersonal skills; an interest in connecting engineering fundamentals with modern industrial practice. Industry experience in areas relevant to Chemical Engineering (for example process operations, design, controls, safety) is highly valued. Experience with laboratory instruction, curriculum development, student advising, or educational innovation is also desirable.
