What are Lease Hands?

Lease Hands are entry-level workers in the oil and gas industry, specifically on drilling rigs. Their primary responsibility is to maintain the rig and the surrounding work area, perform basic labor tasks, and assist other crew members as needed. Lease Hands often handle cleaning, moving equipment, and supporting rig operations to ensure safety and efficiency. This role is physically demanding and serves as a starting point for many who wish to advance in the drilling industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Lease Hand, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lease Hand, you need physical stamina, basic mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to work outdoors in challenging conditions, with a high school diploma often required. Familiarity with oilfield equipment, safety protocols, and certifications such as H2S Alive and First Aid are typically expected. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication skills help you integrate with crews and respond to dynamic situations.
