Job description

Design digital learning experiences people actually want to complete. We're looking for a Learning Experience Designer who understands how people learn and how to turn that understanding into engaging digital experiences. At Ascendium Education Solutions, you'll design curriculum frameworks, learning pathways, assessments, and instructional strategies that make complex topics easier to understand, apply, and remember.
Working closely with the content strategist, writers, and other cross-functional partners, you'll develop learner-centered interactions for people balancing school, work, and life. You'll apply learning science, learner feedback, performance insights, and established best practices to continuously improve our education solutions, making learning more engaging, effective, and accessible.

This hybrid position is based at our headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. You'll generally work in the office three days each week and remotely two days each week.

Job Responsibilities
On a day-to-day basis, you may do the following.
  • Design and develop learning ecosystems - including curriculum frameworks, learning pathways, instructional strategies, and content architectures - that support defined learning outcomes.
  • Create learning objectives, assessments, learning activities, and instructional strategies aligned with learner needs and organizational goals.
  • Apply learner feedback, performance data, learning science, and instructional best practices to identify opportunities and inform learning experience design, curriculum development, and content improvements.
  • Design learning experiences that support educational success, career exploration, workforce readiness, financial wellness, and other related learner outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the content strategist, writers, content management team members, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, define learning goals, and translate them into effective learning experiences and content recommendations.
  • Apply learning science, instructional design principles, and best practices to create engaging, effective, and learner-centered experiences.
  • Develop assessments and evaluation methods that measure learner understanding, progress, and achievement.
  • Review, revise, and improve learning experiences based on learner feedback, performance data, quality reviews, and evolving learner and organizational needs.
  • Ensure learning experiences and supporting content are accurate, accessible, inclusive, and aligned with established quality standards and organizational objectives.
  • Contribute to content planning, curriculum development, learning pathway design, and learning experience strategy discussions.
  • Support content testing, quality assurance reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, research, and best practices in learning experience design, instructional design, curriculum development, educational technology, workforce readiness, and related fields.
  • Identify opportunities to improve learner engagement, educational effectiveness, and content quality and recommend solutions to stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
A highly qualified candidate will possess the following.
  • Knowledge equivalent to a bachelor's degree, preferably in instructional design, learning design, curriculum and instruction, education, educational technology, learning sciences, psychology, human development, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in learning experience design, instructional design, curriculum development, educational content development, educational research, or a related field.
  • Experience designing learning experiences, assessments, curriculum frameworks, instructional approaches, or educational programs.
  • Experience conducting research and applying findings to inform learning design, curriculum development, content improvement, or learner engagement strategies.
  • Experience collaborating with subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders to develop learning experiences and educational solutions.
  • Experience evaluating effectiveness and applying learner feedback, research, or performance data to improve outcomes.
  • Excellent learning experience design, instructional design, and curriculum development skills.
  • Strong understanding of learning principles, learning science, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to gather, synthesize, and apply learner feedback, performance data, and instructional best practices to improve learning experiences and outcomes.
  • Ability to analyze learner needs and translate them into effective, engaging learning experiences.
  • Knowledge of learner engagement, motivation, behavior change, and student success principles.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the content strategist, subject matter experts, writers, product teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of accessibility, inclusive design, and learner-centered design principles.
  • Strong project management, organization, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends, technologies, research, and best practices in learning experience design, instructional design, curriculum development, educational technology, and related fields.
  • Demonstrated creativity, curiosity, initiative, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with learning technologies, content management systems, research tools, or other educational technology platforms.
  • Valid driver license.
