Overview
Assistant Teacher- Before & After School
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Group/Head Teacher, Site Coordinator, Program Supervisor LOCATION: West New York, NJ
Position Summary
The Assistant Teacher supports the instructional and supervisory responsibilities of the classroom by assisting with daily operations and student engagement. This role is integral to maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing environment within a before- and after-school program, as well as seasonal summer programming.
The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with staff to promote student engagement, social-emotional development, and positive behavior in alignment with program expectations.
Program Hours:
  • Before Care: 7:30 AM - 8:40 AM
  • After Care: 2:45PM - 5:45 PM

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Support child engagement, classroom organization, and daily program activities.
  • Provide consistent supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes pro-social behavior and student engagement.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, and staff.
  • Implement behavior management strategies aligned with program philosophy.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student and family information.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, training, and school events.
  • Complete a minimum of 12 hours of annual professional development, including required orientation training.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations outlined in the New Jersey Manual of Requirements for Child Care Centers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must complete Child Abuse Record Information Background Check.
  • Must complete a Criminal History Record Information Background Check.
  • Must Complete a Mandated 10 hour Health and Safety Training
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred and Internet Applications.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Must Have one of the following
  • High School Diploma
  • Para Pro Certificate (preferred)
  • PEDIATRIC/CPR First Aide Certified
