About the role

Reworld is seeking an Operations Manager to join our Reworld Alexandria team!

This position will report directly to the Facility Manager at our Reworld Alexandria Facility in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Operations Manager position will provide strategic and operational guidance for the safe and cost-effective operation of our Thermomechanical Treatment Facility (TTF). The role has multiple direct reports and these include Operations Supervisor and Shift Supervisors. This role will also be accountable for the non-exempt Operating Technicians in the facility. The Operations Manager will interact directly with business and Reworld SME and other support teams.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Set expectations, hold people accountable and role model Reworld Values and Behaviors to ensure a safe and inclusive workplace, deliver results with trust, and build breakthrough capabilities.

  • Deliver superior environmental, health, and safety leadership to ensure no accidents, no harm to people, and no damage to the environment. Ensures compliance to all permit requirements.

  • Provide leadership and oversight to keep boiler and turbine performance at optimal levels.

  • Accountable for executing the business strategy into actionable operations and improvement plans, including establishing individual Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).

  • Provide input to the long-term planning process which supports the business and corporate strategy.

  • Communicate and implement Operations Department objectives, priorities, and progress.

  • Develop and implement resource plans for effective performance and manage employee relations/engagement.

  • Champion continuous improvement and productivity using methodologies such as Six Sigma and Lean.

  • Lead continuous learning, development, and performance efforts to improve operations capabilities and effectiveness.

  • Provide leadership and coaching to effectively grow and develop personnel.

  • Drive cultural change, operational discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset throughout the operations department.

  • Provide assurance of compliance to procedures through auditing.

  • Responsible for the housekeeping and appearance of the operations areas to maintain a safe working environment.

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical or Chemical preferred.

  • 10 or more years of plant operations supervisory/managerial experience will be accepted in lieu of degree or equivalent military experience.

  • Experience to include power plant operations, or high-pressure boiler experience with a sound understanding of power plant operations.

  • Prior experience in a People Leader role.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to work with a diverse population of employees and contractors.

  • Proven leadership skills as a team player/builder and a driver of value-added results.

  • Strong internal and external communication skills to stakeholders.

  • Ability to energize and develop all levels of the team.

  • Experience in building (re-building) process/systems focused structure.

  • Maintenance experience with outages, rotating and electrical generation equipment (turbine, generator, etc.) preferred.

  • Thorough safety management skills in high hazard operations.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in facilitating continuous improvement in power plant or manufacturing industries.

  • The ASME, QRO/CFO Certification is desirable, or must be able to qualify for this certification (or any other required certification) within six months of employment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of the organization, with demonstrated ability to influence and energize others.

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Materials handling and processing experience (screw or belt conveyors, cranes, hoppers, etc.).

  • Six Sigma certification and/or Lean Manufacturing certification or experience is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with a CMMS for ordering/cost/work order administration.

  • Experience in a specialty chemical plant, environment with significant material handling, or waste-to-energy or coal fired power plant is highly preferred.

  • Proven leadership skills as a team player/builder and a driver of value-added results.

  • Strong internal and external communication and team-building skills.

  • Ability to energize and develop all levels of the team.

  • Experience in building (re-building) process/systems focused structure.

  • Maintenance experience with outages, rotating and electrical generation equipment (turbine, generator, etc.)

Experience in or knowledge of one or more these is preferred:

  • Electrical and controls systems

  • Air compressors

  • Condensate pumps

  • Cooling water systems

  • Understanding of solid fuel combustion practices and materials handling processes

  • Continuous Improvement

  • Safety and Incident Management

Pay Transparency

Reworld is committed to paying its staff equitably, and we strive to provide competitive compensation and benefits packages. The range below reflects Reworld's reasonable estimate of base pay for this role based on primary posting location. It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future.

The pay range for the primary location of this position is: $136,600.00 - $195,300.00 USD. For hourly roles, this is the annualized salary. To calculate the hourly rate, divide by 2080.
