Job Description: Learning Coach

This job is exempt with no supervisory responsibilities

Job Summary:
The Learning Coach provides classroom teaching assistance such as reinforcing skills, completing roll call and student counts and, administering make-up tests, etc., assists teachers with academic instruction and classroom activities, prepares and disseminates materials for classroom activities, and assists the teacher with classroom management. Assists students individually, in small groups, or in the classroom as a whole with mentoring and instruction and providing extra assistance to complete assignments, prepare for tests, and reach academic grade level or beyond.
Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Supports the philosophy and vision of the school system in which he or she is employed, reacts to changes within the school system or facility professionally, and supports the value of education within society as a whole.
  • Works with teachers to find effective ways to deal with behavioral issues in the classroom and assists in setting up the classroom for special activities. Also assists the teacher with instructional duties. Assists in leveraging technology by assisting the teacher to prepare reports, lesson plans, and student assessments, grade papers as well as assisting students to use the technology provided to increase their learning capacity
  • Arranges for field trips (permission slips, arrangement of transportation, etc.), speakers/presenters, and related educational activities; accompanies class on field trips as required. Performs miscellaneous duties as required such as distributing materials, scheduling parent or teacher appointments, ordering supplies, scheduling tutoring, escorting students to other areas of the school, etc.
  • The learning coach is responsible for taking students through Desert View Academy’s academic goals with the key aim of helping the student understand the program and pass any tests or exams that may be administered. The coach identifies the student's weaknesses and focuses on improving them to eventually boost performance.

Essential Qualifications:

Must have a High School Diploma or GED

and holds an associate’s (or higher) degree or

       Completed two years of study (equaling 60 or more credit hours) at an accredited institution of

Obtained a passing score on an ADE-approved assessment

    Essential Physical Functions and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for whatever time it takes to complete the task
  • Must be able to traverse whenever necessary to fulfill the needs of the position
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other electronic devices which will require repetitive motions
  • Must be able to position yourself to assist staff, students or other duties as assigned
  • Will regularly perform duties that require repetitive motion
  • Must be able to communicate, this is both by being able to talk and to hear and be able to observe your surroundings
  • May need to transport boxes, computer equipment and any other equipment necessary to fulfill the essential functions of the job
  • Exposure to working conditions: the job primarily is indoors so exposure to florescent lighting and other elements typical in a school setting. May also be exposed to outdoor elements when performing outside job responsibilities
