Spotsylvania Animal Hospital is looking for a full or part time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join their team. At SAH we strive to foster a positive, welcoming culture that feels like family.
Job Description:
The veterinary technician is the primary support to veterinarians and patients. The veterinary technician must be able to pay attention to detail, respond quickly and calmly to crises, and maintain very high standards of patient care. In addition, the veterinary technician must be able to communicate well with clients, showing care and concern for their pets.
General Job Tasks / Essential Functions:
  • Take and document history of presenting complaints, medications the pet is on, and any other information regarding factors contributing to the pet's health status.
  • Perform initial triage/assessment of patients upon arrival as needed for emergencies.
  • Perform in house lab procedures including, but not limited to, urinalysis, bloodwork, cytology, ear mite microscopic exam, skin scrapings, felv/ fiv/hw tests, fecal and blood smear.
  • Place IV catheters and perform routine venipuncture for injections and blood draws.
  • Administer medications through oral and injectable routes as ordered by DVM.
  • Create estimates as needed for routine procedures and treatments.
  • Supervise and direct assistants, oversee restraint procedures, and explain expected outcomes.
  • Maintain Controlled Substance records for medication administered or dispensed through your shift.
  • Communicate openly and respectfully with fellow co-workers.
  • Lead and direct others in a professional and kind manner.

Surgical Tasks / Essential Functions:
  • Administer pre-surgical and post surgical medications per Dr. instruction.
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia in accordance with state regulations.
  • Perform routine dental cleanings, extractions, and gingival suturing in accordance with state regulations.
