Job description

Manager, Learning Experience Design

Training is changing fast, and we need a leader who can do the work while showing others how to do it better. We aren't looking for someone to just manage a content factory; we need a designer who can figure out how people actually learn in a high-tech environment.

In this role, you will build tools specifically for our Commercial Bank and Financial Services teams. Capital One is putting a lot of resources into how we welcome new hires and help our current employees and leaders grow. You will be a "player-coach"-spending your time building projects while also setting the standards for the rest of the design team. You'll have the freedom to experiment with new tools and the authority to change how we teach thousands of people. You'll help us move away from long, boring courses and toward tools that help people solve problems while they work.

What You Will Do

  • Set the Standard: Work alongside our designers to show them how to use new methods like quick prototyping and AI-assisted drafting.

  • Practical AI Use: Use AI tools to build outlines, scripts, and practice scenarios. You will also create tools-like specific AI prompts or practice bots-that employees can use to get help after a class is over.

  • Hands-on Creation: You will be responsible for the creative work from start to finish. This includes writing video scripts, mapping out courses, building simulations, and creating digital games.

  • Fix the Classroom: Turn our live and virtual classes into workshops. Instead of sitting through lectures, you'll design sessions where people spend their time practicing skills and getting feedback.

  • Build for the Flow of Work: Create short, 3-to-5-minute lessons that live where our employees already spend their time, like Slack or G-Chat.

  • Prove It Works: Go beyond "completion rates." Use data to see if people are actually changing how they work and if our programs are helping the company meet its goals.

  • Design for Everyone: Ensure every tool we build is easy to use for everyone and meets accessibility standards like Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

  • Be the Expert: You will work closely with our learning consultants to turn business needs into training that works. You will decide the best way to build a solution-whether that's a video, a live workshop, or a digital game.

"We recognize that many life paths can contribute to interest in this role. We value all experience, whether gained in a classroom or through other paths, and invite everyone who meets the below requirements to apply for this role."

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

  • At least 5 years of experience in learning design and development

  • At least 4 years of experience with Articulate Storyline or Adobe

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in learning design and development.

  • 4+ years of experience in Training Design and Development for digital modalities.

  • 4+ years of experience with multimedia photo and video editing software.

  • Experience building custom GPTs or specific prompt libraries that non-technical employees can use for daily tasks.

  • Experience using Experience API or similar data tools to track how people use learning materials outside of a standard classroom.

  • Experience working in an environment where you treated a learning program like a product, using feedback and data to keep improving it after it launched.

  • Familiarity with designing for Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) or building simulations for technical training.

  • Proven experience building content that meets WCAG or Universal Design for Learning (UDL) standards.

  • Portfolio of work that shows examples of digital learning, live workshop materials, and at least one instance where you used AI to solve a design problem or build a tool.
