General Description
Will be responsible in assisting the classroom teacher in providing an appropriate learning educational inclusive environment for the children in the classroom including children with special needs in accordance with Texas Department of Family & Protective Services Minimum Standards, the Hidalgo County Head Start Program Policies and Procedures, and the Texas Education Agency regulations. The employee has no supervisory responsibility.
Examples of Work Performed
Assists the teacher in classroom activities that provide children with a learning environment appropriate to the age and stage of development to include children with special needs.
Assists the teacher in implementing the educational program adopted for the Hidalgo County Head Start Program in conjunction with the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Assists the teacher in supervising children at all times during indoor/outdoor activities to include children with special needs.
Assist the teacher in providing an inclusive educational environment and provide children the opportunity to actively participate in Family Style Serving during all meal times to include children with special needs.
Document observation notes accordingly as deemed necessary.
Represents the Hidalgo County Head Start Program accurately and positively to the community.
Attends all training/workshops sponsored by the Head Start Program as assigned by the Administrative Staff.
Will be expected, on occasion, to work after regular working hours, and attend evening meetings, weekend training and out of town conferences.
Must attend all trainings deemed necessary by the Executive Director to comply with TDFPS Child Care Minimum Standards & Performance Standards and the Texas Education Agency during the summer months.
Must adhere to and maintain the obligations as described in the Confidentiality Policies of the Agency.
Must comply with Program Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
Will be subject to transfer from center to center as needed upon the request of the Special Services Director.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Executive Director.
Education and Experience
Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and twelve (12) college hours.
Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate required.
Must acquire First Aid and CPR certification.
Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Must be able to deal with the public in a courteous and diplomatic manner. Must have automobile and current liability insurance for work related travel.
