Job description

Description
Pro Action's Head Start Program is looking for a full-time, 12-month, floating teaching assistant for our Head Start classrooms throughout Steuben and Yates Counties. The Teaching Assistant partners with the Teacher in the planning and implementation of daily activities in the pre-k classroom, adhering to Head Start Performance Standards, NYS Office of Children and Family Services Day Care Regulations and all other applicable program regulations. Working in a team environment, the Teaching Assistant will participate in weekly planning sessions, attend training and meetings as required, ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment, assist in classroom, and program modifications and help with inventory as needed.
Make ongoing observations of children's development and maintain anecdotal records. Assist lead teacher in utilizing the Teaching Strategies GOLD child outcomes Assessment Tool at each of three required checkpoints. Ensure implementation of the developed lesson plans and learning objectives as assigned by the teacher. Perform a variety of administrative, coordination and logistical services in support of the operations of the program and assist with information management to the team.

  • Communication and language skills to comprehend documents and other correspondence.
  • Strong computer skills with basic knowledge of Excel Microsoft office and other office equipment such as copier, scanner, fax etc.
  • Ability to interact with customers from a variety of backgrounds and with different level of management.
  • Capability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written and oral form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Requirements
A minimum of an associate's degree in early childhood education or related field, or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or State-Awarded Certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential. The ideal candidate must work well with children, have basic computer skills and excellent organization.
The ideal candidate must have a driver's license, meeting agency standards and consistent, reliable transportation that will allow regular travel in and around the service area. Agency Driver Record History standards information can be obtained by calling Human Resources at 607-776-2125.
