Job description

CNC Operator/Programmer - 1st shift, $35 hour

Position Summary

The CNC Operator/Programmer shall be capable of designing, setting up, adjusting, programming and operating CNC equipment to produce precision parts and components according to engineering specifications.

Essential Functions

  • Continuously safely perform all required tasks, adhering to all established safety rules and procedures. Must take immediate action to correct and/or report any unsafe conditions and hazards.
  • Take an active role in caring for the equipment to prevent breakdowns and defects and help increase overall equipment efficiency through 5S, TPM (total productive maintenance), and other Lean Manufacturing initiatives directed by the Sedalia site.
  • Interpret Technical Blueprints: Read and understand project blueprints and specifications.
  • Program CNC Machines: Use CAD/CAM software to design and write programs for CNC machine tools.
  • Machine Setup & Operation: Set up CNC machines, load materials, conduct test runs, and operate machines to ensure successful production.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain records of CNC programs and machine specifications.
  • Modify Programs: Adjust existing programs to improve efficiency or adapt to new requirements.
  • Quality Control: Inspect components using precision measuring tools to ensure conformity to design specifications.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and resolve machine malfunctions, conduct minor repairs, and support operators with setup and troubleshooting.
  • Safety & Cleanliness: Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, machinists, and production teams to resolve issues and optimize processes.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Skill & Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma required; Associate's degree in CNC programming, machine tool technology, or related field preferred.
  • Certifications: CNC programming or operations certifications are advantageous.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, ability to read G-code, and strong understanding of machining fundamentals.
  • Experience: Previous experience programming and operating CNC machines; experience with specific machines (mills, lathes, grinders) may be required.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of precision and meticulous planning.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve programming and machine issues.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience with 2, 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machines.
