Job description

JOB TITLE: Staff Daycare Lead

DEPARTMENT: B&A Connections and Extension Programs

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of B&A Connections and Extension Programs

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Non-Certified, Support Personnel

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 9-10 months; Work week is Monday-Friday; Working hours are 8 hours per day, as assigned by the Assistant Director/Director of B&A Connections and Extension Programs.

SALARY: Based on Experience, $15.66 - $19.63 per hour

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Child Development Associate (C.D.A.) preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of full-time experience in a related school aged or early childhood center, education, or childcare setting.

Must be at least 21 years of age to serve in this position per the Oklahoma Department of Human Services policy. 

Must meet the requirements dictated by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, including a clean OSBI background check.  

Must complete and maintain 12 hours (per year of pre-approved training required by OKDHS through the Center for Early childhood Professional Development (CECPD) online database.   

Skills: CPR and First Aid Certification; Bilingual abilities preferred, but not required.  

SUMMARY:  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThese statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to the position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  1. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively.
  2. Responsible for day-to-day operations of the childcare classroom.  Works directly with the students during the hours of operation.  Oversees the interactions and learning activities within the classroom.  Provides structured and unstructured opportunities for physical development, cognitive development, language development, and social learning using developmentally appropriate play.  Understands the appropriate discipline strategies for toddlers and preschool-age children.
  3. Maintains confidentiality.
  4. Follows state and district protocols for reporting any suspected abuse or neglect to the program Director, law enforcement and the Department of Human Services.
  5. Responsible for the following paperwork/computer work, for site assigned:
    • Parent Sign In/Sign Out
    • Prepare and email monthly newsletters/calendars
    • Supply requests (DHS required items/ other curriculum).
    • Understand and check online databases for student and contact information.
    • Check and reply to emails each day with parents, staff, and B&A Leadership team members.
    • Keep all appropriate records such as attendance, late pick up fees, and verbal pick up authorizations.
    • Keep the DHS Board current with all required and correct forms.
  6. Ensures all DHS standards and all applicable licensing regulations are met by Tiny Tigers Learning Center staff.
  7. Oversees one even and one service project per semester.
  8. Meets emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child, in the program.
  9. Maintains professional and collaborative relationships with the B&A Leadership team and colleagues in the program.
  10. Maintains and fosters, daily open communication with parents.
  11. Must be able to read, write, and respond to instructions communicated in English.
  12. Arranges a clean and engaging classroom environment in accordance with program goals and philosophy.
  13. Inspects and replaces damaged or lost materials through supply requests.
  14. Attends staff meetings and training, as required.
  15. Effectively document student behavior and incidents according to program standards.
  16. Effectively communicate with B&A Leadership about positive and negative issues in the classroom.
  17. Assists in the implementation of safety training and drills.  All drills must be document in compliance with DHS policy.

ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR:

Ability to use sound judgment in any situation. Ability to deal successfully and rapidly with changes in assignments and properly respond to applicable correspondence/communication received. Ability to project a professional company image through in-person, phone, and electronic interaction. Ability to build and foster harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with District staff and the public while achieving the objectives and goals of the position. Ability to handle problematic and/or difficult situations professionally by communicating with the appropriate person. Ability to respond appropriately to directions from the District or B&A Leadership team.  Must be reliable in attendance.

ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: 

Inside and outside working conditions with minimal exposure to extreme environmental conditions. Outside activities on the playground. Inside activities in the gym, large motor room, cafeteria, or classroom.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS:

  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be mobile and able to walk around indoors and outdoors.
  • Specific vision abilities required in this job to include close vision, depth perception, and the ability adjust focus.
  • Must be able to lift or carry objects
  • Must be able to lift children to relocate, transport, or change diapers.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift, reach, move, talk, and hear.
