Job Description:
The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for planning, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating training programs for retail and non-retail associates. This role collaborates across the organization to identify performance gaps and create customized learning solutions that enhance skills, improve productivity, and positively impact business results and customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Training Needs Analysis:
Conduct assessments through surveys, observations, interviews, and consultations with managers to identify knowledge gaps and learning objectives.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Partner with subject matter experts, department managers, and operational teams to ensure content correctness and that the training aligns with business needs.
Instructional Design:
Develop facilitator-led workshops, blended learning, LMS modules, job aids, and other materials using adult learning principles and ISD models.
Instructional Content Development Technologies:
Use tools like Articulate, Captivate, PowerPoint, and LMS platforms for eLearning modules
Training Facilitation:
Deliver training programs for management and non-management associates using interactive methods such as presentations, group discussions, and hands-on exercises.
Train-the-Trainer:
Prepare field HR managers and supervisors to conduct training sessions; monitor and provide feedback on facilitation quality.
Instructional Evaluation:
Conduct Level 1-4 evaluations to measure learning transfer and ROI.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:
  • Experience in instructional design and facilitation.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning theory and ISD models.
  • Familiarity with blended learning strategies and virtual facilitation.
  • Proficiency in LMS platforms and eLearning tools.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Experience in a retail grocery environment.
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and partnering skills.
  • Highly developed analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating training effectiveness.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in education, human resource management, business administration or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working in the training or education space is preferred.
  • Experience working in a retail environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Workday Learning is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Articulate Rise 360, Articulate Storyline 360 and Adobe Captivate is preferred.
