Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Work-Based Learning Specialist to join our team at the Sacramento Job Corps Center. The Work-Based Learning Specialist will be responsible for coordinating all Career Readiness Program activities. Instruct students on labor market research, interview skill, teaching job search skill, assisting in pre-separation job search, assists students in developing an employment portfolio, assesses barriers to employment and help students develop strategies to overcome them. Participates in exit readiness and student exit transition panels. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates and abides by the Company Core Values and the operating principles.
  • Instructs students through structured programing and individual coaching to develop resumes, learn how to access Labor market information, improve interview skills, learn and improve job search skills, and prepare all documents needed to assist them in securing placement in a job, advanced training, college or the military. Utilizing provided curriculum resources and implementing new curriculum when needed.
  • Assists students in adjusting to Center life to enhance student retention by providing supervision, behavior modification, counseling, and by acting as a positive role model and mentor. Also ensures that student needs are met in a timely professional manner with customer service in mind.
  • Prepares reports and forms and documents in CIS case notes and files observations of student's behavior, performance, notable information or events, and progress towards achieving goals and objectives.
  • Adheres to all PRH and CMG policies and procedures, and the Center Operating Procedures. Including the communication with the CTS department on students Career Readiness.
  • Ensures equipment and assigned work areas are clean and maintained in accordance with Center and DOL standards. Conducts quarterly property counts, submits property relocation requests as needed. May serve as a property custodian and submits maintenance requests as needed.
  • Participates in Center exit transition panels, job fairs, and career days.
  • Maintains linkages with military services, One Stops/American Career Centers and other external resources.
  • Maintains confidentiality but reports significant events or situations immediately through approved channels to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff, and to ensure that required reporting occurs, and that students receive emergency services as needed. Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to students in the event of injury, illness, or emotional trauma.

Qualifications:

Minimum: Associates degree in work-related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience. One year's work-related experience.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in work-related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience. One year's work-related experience. Previous Job Corps or workforce development experience.

Knowledge Required: Knowledge of education and vocational training programs. Ability to effectively communicate with and relate to disadvantaged youth. Working knowledge of computer systems. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certificate.
