Job description

Principal Associate, Learning Consultant

Capital One’s Enterprise Learning & Development team is seeking a Learning Consultant to drive high-impact, innovative educational solutions for Credit College. In this role, you will partner with business leaders to translate intent into effective learning experiences. Using a stakeholder-focused, iterative approach, you will collaborate across teams to develop learning solutions that directly address business needs and performance goals. As one of Capital One’s flagship learning portfolios, Credit College fuels our business through practical and immersive credit learning experiences. The target audience for Credit College is business and credit analysts at various levels who are seeking to develop their credit and judgment skills as well as adjacent job families looking to better navigate Capital One’s credit culture.

How You’ll Work: Our dedicated team works with highly engaged partners to envision and deliver the future of credit training at Capital One.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Strategic Liaison: Collaborating with instructional designers and delivery partners to ensure learning solutions meet business needs and align with the broader learner journey.
  • Needs Analysis & Scoping: Conducting thorough performance gap analyses to identify and scope new opportunities for credit content in response to emerging business priorities.
  • Impact & Oversight: Partnering with the delivery team to monitor execution and ensure all programs achieve their defined learning impact goals.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with the Consulting Lead and credit stakeholders to maintain a curriculum that is both accurate, pedagogically sound, and responsive to emerging needs.
The ideal candidate is:
  • A strategic learning partner: Possesses strong expertise in adult learning theory and learning design principles; thinks holistically; solves problems systemically; balances long-term learning vision with immediate stakeholder requests; brings structure to ambiguity and manages multiple priorities effectively.
  • A strategic business consultant: Connects business requirements to specific learning solutions; influences the direction of learning programs by aligning the content vision with stakeholder objectives and ensuring all curricula map back to primary business goals.
  • A highly collaborative and consensus-minded partner: Works cross-functionally with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define learning needs and develop learning solutions; serves as the central liaison between design, delivery, and business partners to ensure a cohesive end-to-end experience.
  • Adept at championing an iterative strategy: Demonstrates a high degree of responsiveness to learner feedback and stakeholder requests; proactively refines solutions to ensure maximum effectiveness and relevance to emerging business needs.
  • Able to juggle multiple complex learning initiatives: Works with minimal oversight, leveraging a solutions-oriented mindset to deliver high-quality results on time.
  • Data-driven and focused on impact: Uses feedback and defined metrics to improve offerings and measure tangible performance outcomes.
  • A proactive team player: Actively shares best practices and identifies efficiencies to elevate the collective expertise of the team and the broader L&D community.
What You Need to be Successful:
  • Experience in instructional design and learning consultancy: While specific industry knowledge in credit or risk management is a plus, we prioritize a deep understanding of how to drive measurable learning outcomes.
  • Ability to be a strong partner to multiple specialized roles: You must be comfortable acting as the “connective tissue” between Design and Delivery partners and technical SMEs.
  • High level of initiative and ownership: A focus on maximizing the impact of every learning initiative, taking full accountability for the quality of the solution and its alignment with stakeholder expectations.
  • Excellent communication and influence: Ability to influence senior partners and translate complex credit concepts into clear, actionable instructions for Design and Delivery teams.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, lead through change, and deliver results within a complex, organizational structure.
  • A collaborative approach with key partners and SMEs to collectively define the “destination state” for a variety of learner personas and oversee the execution of those learning strategies.
  • Ability to work with minimal oversight, delivering high-quality, accurate results on time, without compromising the depth or integrity of the content.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in adult learning and development
  • At least 1 year of experience in client consulting
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in adult learning and development
  • 2+ years of experience in client consulting
