Job description

About the Role

Alumni Ventures believes development happens primarily through meaningful work, direct feedback, coaching, and continuous learning, not through training alone. The Director, Talent Development is responsible for helping employees build the capabilities, judgment, and operating effectiveness required to perform at a higher level, create greater value for the firm, and prepare for increasing responsibility over time.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role that works through managers to build a culture of continuous development and high performance. The Director partners with managers to translate feedback into practical Individual Development Plans (IDPs), strengthen manager capability, and equip employees with the skills, experiences, and resources needed to improve execution in their current roles. Rather than becoming a substitute manager or an employee-relations channel, this role enables leaders and employees to take ownership of development by removing barriers, providing candid and constructive coaching, and recommending practical development experiences that improve performance.
In addition, the Director designs and delivers enterprise learning programs with an emphasis on manager effectiveness, leadership development for mid-level managers, AI-enabled ways of working, and practical learning that can be immediately applied. Success in this role comes from building stronger managers, more capable employees, and a learning culture that raises the performance bar across Alumni Ventures.

Scope & Impact

The Director, Talent Development builds the firm's talent development capability by helping managers develop people more effectively, improving employee capability and execution, and creating practical learning experiences aligned with Alumni Ventures' business priorities. This role advances the firm's belief that great teammates continuously learn, take ownership, simplify, and improve how work gets done.

What You'll Do

Individual Development Planning & Employee Growth

  • Partner with managers to build meaningful Individual Development Plans for every employee, equipping managers to own ongoing development conversations.
  • Coach managers on identifying capability gaps, setting development priorities, and selecting practical learning experiences that improve performance.
  • Meet directly with employees to support development planning when appropriate, while reinforcing the manager's ownership of employee growth.
  • Help employees and managers identify and remove barriers that limit performance, capability, and execution.
  • Develop practical tools, templates, and resources that make development planning simple, actionable, and consistent.

Manager & Leadership Development

  • Design and facilitate manager development focused on coaching, feedback, delegation, communication, accountability, and performance management.
  • Develop leadership programs for emerging and mid-level leaders.
  • Equip managers to deliver candid, constructive feedback that improves performance while building trust.
  • Partner with leaders to strengthen management capability and foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

Learning & Capability Development

  • Design and deliver learning programs aligned to business priorities and capability needs.
  • Create learning pathways for investment and corporate professionals by role level.
  • Observe teams and partner with leaders to identify capability gaps and recommend practical interventions that improve execution, collaboration, and decision-making.
  • Continuously experiment with new learning methods, technologies, and AI-enabled approaches, using data and feedback to simplify and improve learning.

AI Learning & Enablement

  • Help employees integrate AI into their daily workflows through practical use cases, prompting techniques, and responsible adoption.
  • Create playbooks, resources, and workshops that improve productivity, decision-making, and knowledge sharing.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging AI capabilities and translate them into practical applications for the business.

Instructional Design & Facilitation

  • Create engaging workshops, playbooks, videos, facilitator guides, and digital learning resources.
  • Facilitate onboarding, leadership development, enterprise learning events, and team workshops.
  • Measure learning effectiveness through capability improvement and business outcomes, continuously refining programs.
Who You Are
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in talent development, learning & development, leadership development, coaching, or organizational development.
  • Demonstrated experience building Individual Development Plans and coaching managers on employee development.
  • Experience designing and facilitating manager and leadership development programs.
  • Strong instructional design and curriculum development experience.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and coaching skills, with the ability to deliver candid, constructive feedback that drives performance while building trust.
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to translate business priorities into practical development solutions.
  • Strong consulting and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated project management and program execution skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel periodically to Alumni Ventures offices to facilitate learning programs, coach employees and managers, and support talent development initiatives.
Preferred
  • Experience in venture capital, financial services, consulting, professional services, or another knowledge-based organization.
  • Experience supporting both investment and corporate functions.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to improve learning, productivity, or organizational capability.
