Job description

Job Title: TRIO SSS Coordinator
Department: TRIO
Reports To: Director of Student Success and Learning Services
Job Classification: Exempt
Location: Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls, IA
Summary: The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the successful administration of the TRIO Student Support Services federal grant program which assists first-generation, low-income, and disabled college students who graduate from the host institution and also transfer to a 4-year university.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Completes selection process from start to finish to ensure eligible participants are accepted along with data entry to monitor eligibility progress standards are being met. Conducts regular meetings with TRIO SSS eligible participants to educate and assist participants on program of study requirements, graduation requirements along with academic, financial aid and transfer advising. This position will advise all students in the program (120). In conjunction with the advisors, provide advising services to Student Support Services participants. Monitor program participant academic progress and contact students as needed. Collaborates with other programs for at-risk students including completing all TRIO SSS early alert requests.
  • Manages and carries out a wide variety of tasks that allows for the successful administration of a federal TRIO SSS grant program. This includes (per the grant): Carrying out the day-to-day operation of the Project; working with enrollment services to identify and retain participants; coordinating with other programs serving disadvantaged students; tracking all participant activity; providing recommendations regarding student grant aid awards.
  • Provides a variety of education and other opportunities for participants to learn and grow academically and as a person. This includes grant-specific items such as developing Cultural Enrichment Events, financial literacy workshops, and organizing transfer trips. Connects with community members and other college employees to help facilitate these enrichment activities. Arrange learning communities and supplemental instruction with the Dean of Academic Affairs and faculty. Works with faculty to determine appropriate students for supplemental instruction. Provides general management and supplemental instruction training to student leaders.
  • Prepares, collects, analyzes, and synthesizes a wide variety of data in order to successfully complete annual federal reporting and ECC benchmarks. Responsible for coordinating effective summative and formative evaluations of the project as outlined in the evaluation section of the grant proposal. Determines appropriate evaluation schedule, methods, reporting and any corrective actions/ adjustments needed to ensure program services are delivered in appropriate and impactful ways and project objectives are met.
  • Works and communicates professionally with others in a timely manner. Performs in a manner which benefits student learning. Supports the overall success of the District by performing other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: Completion of a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience required. TRIO experience or experience with a similar background is preferred. Master's degree preferred.
Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to cultivate good rapport and trust with a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to manage time effectively and accomplish tasks by stated deadlines. Knowledge of IVCCD, ECC, & Departmental operations, services, and policies. Ability to use a computer and a variety of computer software effectively. Knowledge of higher education in general and college student development specifically, especially as it relates to first-generation, low-income and disabled students.
Base Wage: $39,967-$53,289 annually - actual salary will be based on experience and education.
