Description
Summary:
Under general supervision, manages and oversees the day-to-day activities of support employees, residence assistants, and student assistants engaged in a range of direct student residence life services. Provides leadership in the direction and administration of the living learning program fostering an environment for students and staff that is conducive to both personal and professional growth and achieving the objectives of a viable student development program in support of the Housing and Residential Life Department's mission. Serve in a live-in capacity to provide non-therapeutic student counseling, crisis intervention, and referral service.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training and problem resolution, evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions, motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
• Trains, monitors, and coordinates the activities of staff and serves as the primary resource for information and problem resolution.
• Counsels and trains student residence assistants to ensure compliance with residence hall and university policies.
• Develops educational, recreational and/or social programs and services for student residents; advises and interacts with student organizations and various departments to enhance residence life experience for students.
• Intervenes in student crises such as suicide attempts, drug overdoses, alcohol and drug abuse, and other health problems; works with appropriate university personnel to provide counseling and/or assessment and referral services; coordinates corrective actions in other emergencies such as physical confrontations or fire and bomb threats.
• Completes necessary incident reports.
• Oversees and coordinates the allocation of housing space and the maintenance of appropriate hall records.
• Develops, coordinates, and completes the communication, planning and implementation of the living learning component of freshmen and/or new student orientation sessions, and training programs.
• Oversees the operations of residence life infrastructure activities and programs, to include the 24-hour shift.
• Demonstrates personal and professional commitment to diversity by involvement in teaching, creative activity, service to the profession and/or cultural activities.
• Consults with Housing and Residential Life staff in the development of goals and objectives for residential education to address student needs.
• Exhibits a working knowledge and understanding of concepts of student development, student rights and responsibilities, and University and Housing and Residential Life policies and procedures through both statement and example.
• Assists in the supervision, direction, and evaluation of staff.
• Prepares an annual report and other periodic operational reports as required.
• Prepares reports and maintains records and reports of incidents, damages, and repairs.
• Enforces residence hall policies and regulations.
• Assumes responsibility for the creation and dissemination of all necessary information concerning living learning residential options and development.
• Counsels and advises students and/or refers to appropriate resource persons.
• Develops, changes, interprets, and implements policies and procedures.
• Serves on various University committees.
• Participates in professional development activities such as state, regional and national housing management associations.
• Provide management in the following areas: a) overseeing the day-to-day activities of support employees, and students; b) reviewing all discipline incident reports and letters of sanction, recommending appropriate action; c) coordinating allocation of housing space and maintenance of resident hall records; d) coordinating education and training of all students, including facilitating workshops and seminars; and e) overseeing residence life programs including the central desk, security aide program, and the mail room.
• Performs related duties as required.
• Assists in all other aspects of Housing and Residential Life as needed.
• Considered essential personnel and required to be present/on call/ stay over for emergency situations.

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
• Bachelor's degree in the Social Sciences, Student Personnel, Human Services, or other related fields; A Master's degree is a plus.
• One (1) to four (4) years of Residential Life & Housing experience, hotel front desk, residential living, residential management, resident assistant, counseling, military housing management general management, and/or other related fields to the duties and responsibilities listed.
• One or more years of supervisory or team-leading experience.
• Experience with building maintenance, student retention, program/activities development & planning is a plus.
• Or High school diploma or equivalent with one or more years of experience in supervision, three or more years of customer service, conflict resolution, counseling experience, group work, or human relations training, and four or more years of work experience in the following areas: residential living or residence hall work with residents, group home, Residential Life & Housing, military housing management, or hotel front desk management experience.
• Experience with building maintenance, student retention, program/activities development & planning is a plus.
