Job description

Steiner Electric

National Electrical Distribution Company

Industrial Safety and Lifting Business Development

Rockford - Hybrid/On-Site Position (Targeting the I-90 Corridor / Northern Illinois region in addition to the entire Steiner Electric trading area)

Are you a positive, ambitious, outgoing individual with impeccable people skills?

Do you have a passion for taking ownership to implement new growth initiatives?

Does working in a highly-engaged organization, one that’s committed to growth, collaboration and innovation interest you?

ABOUT US:

Steiner Electric is a family-owned company founded in 1916. Steiner Electric is the 35th largest electrical supply business in the country, with locations in Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana and Southeast Wisconsin. We represent many of leading manufacturers in the industry. Our team services customers with standard electrical and industrial supplies and represent automation products, motors and drives, energy management, and custom products. Steiner is a close family culture with a strong commitment to customer service, values, integrity and community service.

WHAT WE OFFER:

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package that includes:

  • Competitive compensation plans
  • Tiered "Growth Incentive" Bonus Structure
  • Hybrid/Remote work environment
  • Generous Paid Time Off
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Short-term and Long-term disability insurance
  • Learning & Development Plans
  • Coaching & Mentorship
  • 401K with company match
  • Wellness reimbursement program

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Steiner Electric is transitioning from a reactive product supplier to a premier, technical solutions partner. We are seeking a high-energy, technically savvy Industrial Safety & Lifting Products Specialist to spearhead our strategic expansion into the Northern Illinois market.

Based out of our high-potential Rockford territory, you will lead the integration of our established Industrial Lifting and Sling division with a brand-new, comprehensive Industrial Safety portfolio (PPE, fall protection, environmental safety, and LOTO). Operating on a consultative "Audit, Automate, Advance" sales model, you will act as the technical subject matter expert and "closer," helping our three core divisions (Construction Electrical, Industrial Electrical, and Metalworking) scale total category revenue to targeted levels over the next three years.

Key Responsibilities & Core Outcomes

1. Business Development & Technical Consultation

  • Execute Site Safety Audits: Conduct comprehensive "Sling & PPE Gap Analyses" and safety seminars on-site. Identify regulatory compliance (OSHA) gaps, rigging risks, and PPE inefficiencies to generate immediate high-margin solutions.
  • Drive Category Growth: Directly hunt and close safety business to meet structured scaling milestones. Balance product sales targets with a strict mix of 60% Safety/PPE and 40% Lifting/Slings.
  • Monetize Technical Expertise: Offer certified sling inspections and safety compliance consulting to build embedded, high-retention customer relationships.

2. Automated Inventory & Vending Deployment

  • Act as Vending System Admin: Utilize existing CribMaster (for high-value/critical asset tracking) and Storeroom Logix / SRX (for high-velocity consumables) platforms to design and implement client inventory solutions.
  • Deploy Point-of-Use Vending: Identify high-potential accounts for automated dispensing pilots. Select the top 20 high-velocity PPE items per site to drive high-turn revenue, aiming for a territory-wide deployment network over 36 months.
  • Optimize Margins & Data: Monitor vending dashboards to manage stock rotation, mitigate "dead stock," and guarantee an average gross margin target of 25% to 30% or better. Document and report Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) savings directly to customers.

3. Cross-Divisional Collaboration & Internal Integration

  • Act as a Horizontal Resource: Work cross-functionally as the technical closer for generalist account managers across Construction Electrical, Industrial Electrical, and Metalworking sales teams.
  • The "Lifting and Sling Partnership" Cross-Training: Participate in an intensive 90-day technical shadowing and cross-training program with our internal Lifting specialist. You will learn ASME B30.9 (Slings) and B30.26 (Rigging) standards while cross-training the internal team on PPE trends and vending compliance.
  • Pipeline Management: Lead a monthly "Safety Pipeline" strategy session with division heads to coordinate site audits and maximize referrals tracked via HubSpot CRM.

WHAT WE'LL NEED FROM YOU:

  • Industry Experience: 5–7+ years of successful experience in Industrial Safety product distribution or working with a Tier 1 Safety Manufacturer.
  • Geographic Familiarity: Strong market intelligence and/or existing book of relationships within the Rockford/Belvidere manufacturing, aerospace, or heavy logistics sectors.
  • Vending & Inventory Savvy: Proven experience setting up, selling, or managing cloud-based automated inventory systems (e.g., Storeroom Logix, CribMaster, AutoCrib, Tool Boss, etc.).
  • Sales DNA: A consultative collaborator, not a "lone wolf." Proven track record of winning over internal sales reps and generalist account managers to conduct joint client calls.

Preferred Certifications & Technical Knowledge:

  • QSSP (Qualified Safety Sales Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) designation is highly preferred.
  • Technical competence or prior experience executing basic Sling & Rigging inspections to ASME standards.

We are an equal opportunity employer and will consider all qualified applicants for employment. We employ people without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, protected veteran status, or disability.
