Job Summary: The counselor will lead students, families, and staff in fostering postsecondary workforce readiness, with an emphasis on equitable access to resources and opportunities. This position will work toward closing opportunity gaps and facilitate meaningful postsecondary readiness opportunities by equipping 9-12 grade students to be college and career ready. They will lead staff, students, and parents through a variety of activities and supports to enhance college and career readiness including building awareness of financial aid, scholarships, and other resources promoting access and success in postsecondary opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide developmentally appropriate college and career instruction, advisement, and counseling through the ICAP framework. (e.g., classroom lessons, college and career/ICAP planning, targeted small group instruction)
  • Implement Tier 1 college and career activities, enhancing students' college and career readiness (e.g., career and college fairs, FAFSA Nights)
  • Develop and facilitate career development and postsecondary pathways classroom lessons aligned with ASCA Student Standards.
  • Guide students through postsecondary planning, including college applications, financial aid (FAFSA/CASFA), scholarships, and workforce preparation including (e.g., applications, applying for and completing internship requirements, apprenticeships, and mentorship opportunities.)
  • Collaborate with high school counseling office (i.e., counselors, counseling secretary, registrar) to create college and career-ready students.
  • Ensure all students develop and actively use a four-year plan to support their academic and career goals.
  • Lead implementation of Individual Career and Academic Planning (ICAP), including use of digital platforms such as Xello.
  • Collaborate with the Career Connected Learning Coordinator to develop, maintain, and promote partnerships with local businesses, colleges, and community organizations.
  • Monitor and support student progress in internships and work-based learning programs to ensure alignment with career goals.
  • Partner with school programs and local organizations (e.g., colleges and workforce readiness programs) to streamline college and career processes for students and families.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with college, military, and workforce organizations to expand student exposure to postsecondary pathways.
  • Empower parents to successfully navigate and support their child's college and career readiness, including high school courses of study and postsecondary planning.
  • Collect and analyze data measuring the impact of College and Career activities.
  • Review student data and determine areas in which students need assistance for college and career readiness and to close opportunity gaps with specific student populations.
  • Develop and monitor a plan tying College and Career activities to specific student outcome goals.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor/administrator.

Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Counseling. Completion of a School Counseling program.
  • Colorado Special Services License with K-12 Counselor endorsement. Highly Desired Endorsement: Colorado Secondary CTE Specialist, which is a special services authorization for school counselors to meet CTE state requirements. Preferred Certification: ASCA Career Development Specialist, NCDA Certified School Career Development Advisor, or Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF).
  • Experience of college admissions process. Experience as a school counselor preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of content areas.
  • Strong oral and written communication, English language, presentation/training, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations governing school systems and programs.
  • Knowledge of classroom management and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Professional Learning Communities.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
