Job description

Maui Disposal is seeking a motivated, results-driven, and trustworthy Business Development Manager to lead growth initiatives while serving as a key member of the company's management team. This role is responsible for generating and growing revenue by expanding existing revenue streams, developing new customers and business opportunities, and creating new revenue-generating initiatives aligned with the company's core business.

The Business Development Manager will work closely with the General Manager, Ownership, Sales team, and other department leaders to identify opportunities for growth, improve business performance, and increase profitability. In addition, this position will assist the General Manager with operational and strategic responsibilities and will be trained in essential business functions to provide leadership support and operational continuity when needed.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, accountable, and detail-oriented leader with strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to improve processes, develop teams and morale, and drive financial results.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Identify, develop, and secure new customers, accounts, and business opportunities.
  • Grow revenue through expansion of existing customer relationships and current revenue streams.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new revenue-generating opportunities related to the company's core business.
  • Work directly with the Sales team to develop strategies that achieve sales, profitability, market share, and business plan objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, strategic partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor market conditions, customer needs, and competitive activity to identify growth opportunities.
  • Prepare business cases, proposals, and strategic recommendations for ownership and management.

Leadership & Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day business activities while accomplishing assigned growth and operational objectives.
  • Assign performance goals, monitor results, and hold team members accountable for achieving expectations.
  • Review and benchmark current business processes and implement operational best practices to improve efficiency, quality, and profitability.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strategic plans, budgets, and resource allocation initiatives.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively while ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, standards, and cultural values.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Truck Shop, Sales, and other departments to achieve company objectives.
  • Resolve employee and departmental conflicts professionally and efficiently.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.

General Manager Support & Leadership Development

  • Work directly with ownership and the management team on strategic planning and business improvement initiatives.
  • Assist the General Manager in managing fiscal, operational, and personnel functions.
  • Learn and understand all critical business functions to effectively serve as a backup to the General Manager when required.
  • Participate in management-level decision-making and organizational planning.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, and development opportunities to team members.
  • Support a positive workplace culture that promotes accountability, teamwork, and high morale.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, permitting, regulatory, and company requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and productive work environment.
  • Support workplace safety programs and operational risk management.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management or leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in business development, sales, operations management, or revenue growth initiatives.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate employees, manage performance, and hold team members accountable.
