Addiction Counselor Supervisor (LCADC) - Independent Contractor

Position Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Hours: Up to 20 hours per month
Compensation: $50.00-$60.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Program: Substance Use Disorder (SUD) - Outpatient & Intensive Outpatient Services


Position Overview

Renewing Me Behavioral Health Solutions (RMBHS) is seeking an experienced Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) to serve as an Addiction Counselor Supervisor for our Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program.


This is a flexible, part-time independent contractor opportunity of up to 20 hours per month for an experienced clinician interested in providing clinical supervision, consultation, staff development, and quality oversight to addiction counselors providing outpatient and intensive outpatient substance use disorder services.


The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of ASAM criteria, SUD treatment, clinical documentation, Maryland behavioral health requirements, medical necessity, and evidence-based substance use treatment practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and/or group clinical supervision to addiction counselors and eligible SUD clinical staff.
  • Provide case consultation regarding complex clinical needs, treatment barriers, relapse/recurrence concerns, engagement, and continuity of care.
  • Support counselors in applying ASAM criteria and making clinically appropriate level-of-care recommendations.
  • Review assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, continued-stay documentation, discharge planning, and other SUD clinical documentation for quality and medical necessity.
  • Provide guidance regarding ASAM Level 1 Outpatient and Level 2.1 Intensive Outpatient services.
  • Support counselors with treatment planning, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, recovery planning, trauma-informed approaches, and other evidence-based interventions.
  • Monitor clinical documentation quality and provide feedback regarding needed corrections or improvements.
  • Assist with staff competency development, clinical training, and professional development.
  • Participate in clinical case reviews, treatment team meetings, and quality improvement activities as needed.
  • Support compliance with applicable Maryland behavioral health regulations, Medicaid requirements, professional standards, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Identify and communicate clinical, documentation, ethical, or compliance concerns requiring additional follow-up.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to promote effective, person-centered, recovery-oriented SUD services.


Required Qualifications

  • Current and unrestricted Maryland LCADC license.
  • Must meet applicable Maryland requirements to provide clinical supervision to addiction counselors/credentialed SUD professionals.
  • Experience providing substance use disorder treatment services.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria and levels of care.
  • Experience with substance use assessments, individualized treatment planning, clinical documentation, relapse prevention, and discharge/transition planning.
  • Knowledge of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Strong clinical supervision, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while exercising independent professional judgment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supervising addiction counselors.
  • Experience with ASAM Level 1 and Level 2.1 treatment programs.
  • Experience with Maryland Medicaid behavioral health services.
  • Experience conducting clinical documentation and quality assurance reviews.
  • Experience with utilization review and authorization documentation.
  • Experience working within a CARF-accredited behavioral health organization.
  • Experience training and mentoring SUD treatment professionals.


Schedule & Compensation

This is an independent contractor (1099) position for up to 20 hours per month.

Hourly Rate: $50.00-$60.00 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and supervisory experience.

Contracted activities may include clinical supervision, case consultation, clinical record review, staff training, quality assurance activities, and participation in scheduled clinical meetings.

Additional hours beyond the monthly maximum must be approved in advance.
