Job description

Epoch AI is looking for a founding Social Video Producer who will help us launch short-form video for our new media program. The role will involve producing and editing videos about AI for TikTok and Instagram, and shaping how we show up on those platforms.

About the role

We are looking for a Social Video Producer to help us bring Epoch AI's research to a much broader audience. You will work closely with our media program lead to build our short-form video presence from scratch, aiming for roughly one video per week to start.

Your day-to-day activities will include producing and editing short-form videos, developing repeatable formats, and advising on our social strategy (what to post, when, and how to grow engagement). An ideal candidate is a strong video producer first; deep AI knowledge is not required, since the point of this program is to reach people who don't follow AI closely. Your work will be key to making rigorous AI research accessible to a general audience.

This is an in-person role based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The media team will work together in person for at least the first six months of the program.

Key responsibilities
  • Owning the video production process from start to finish: brainstorming ideas, handling the tech to shoot high quality video, post-production
  • Produce and edit short-form videos about AI for TikTok and Instagram, from brief to published cut
  • Own our posting and engagement strategy on those platforms: what to post, when, and in what format
  • Develop repeatable video formats the team can sustain week over week
  • Work with our researchers and media program lead to turn technical findings into videos a general audience wants to watch
What we're looking for
  • Prior professional experience producing informational or news content for a general audience
  • Excellent video production and editing skills, shown by a portfolio of short-form work
  • Strong prior performance on TikTok and Instagram as platforms: knowledge of formats, timing, and what drives engagement
  • Entrepreneurial producer who wants to help build the best social video content explaining AI for the general audience anywhere on the internet
  • Good taste in social video; familiarity with what works well, and opinions on formats that we should be inspired by
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, or willing to relocate, and able to work in person with the team
Nice to have
  • Familiarity with AI and the AI ecosystem (interest matters more than expertise)
  • Experience covering technical or scientific topics
  • Expertise running social media accounts on X, Substack, and LinkedIn as well as Instagram and TikTok
Compensation & Benefits
  • Annual salary between $140,000 and $155,000 USD, or more for exceptional candidates.
  • The opportunity to help build a new media team from the ground up, meaningfully shape its direction and share in the upside.
  • Competitive benefits program, including comprehensive health insurance, life insurance, and a retirement plan.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO), including no specific annual limit, with 30 days PTO per year protected, unlimited personal and sick leave, and 4 months paid parental leave for permanent staff with at least 12 months of tenure (prorated parental leave if less than 12 months).
  • A flexible and generous expense policy for you to spend on equipment and a large range of productivity tools or learning/development opportunities, including unlimited spending on AI tools, subject to regulations and manager approval.
  • Optional paid work trips, such as relevant conferences.
  • A desk at our very well-equipped offices in Berkeley, California, including paid meals, snacks, gym, and more.
Additional Information

This role is based in person in the San Francisco Bay Area, and team members will work together on-site for at least the first six months of the media program. We are not able to consider remote applicants for this role.

Epoch is committed to building an inclusive, equitable, and supportive community for you to thrive and do your best work. Please email careers@epoch.ai if you have any questions about this role, accessibility requests, or if you want to request an extension to the application deadline.
