Reporting to the Director of Risk and Compliance, we're looking for a Risk Manager who can influence at the highest levels, bring clarity to complexity, and help power critical decisions across our most important priorities. This role can be located in Waltham, Massachusetts, Brooklyn, New York and/or Melville, New York with hybrid working.

Job Purpose

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role that partners closely with senior leadership to shape and influence critical business decisions, including multibillion dollar infrastructure investments. The position plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the clean energy transition, while also providing the opportunity to lead, develop, and grow a key capability within a critical risk function.

You'llย go beyond managing risk-you'llย enable progress across National Grid's biggest priorities:ย 

  • Advance cleaner energyย 
    Manage risks tied to decarbonization, grid transformation, and regulatory changeย 
  • Strengthen infrastructure investmentย 
    Provide insight and challenge on large-scale capital programs and system resilienceย

    Ensure risksย impactingย reliability, affordability, and service are proactively managedย 
  • Drive better decisionsย 
    Translate complex risk into clear, actionable insights for executive leadersย 
Key Accountabilities
  • Lead delivery of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworkย 
  • Act as a trusted advisorย to a Business Unitย -providing challenge, insight, and solutionsย 
  • Coordinate and advise risk owners on risk identification, assessment, and analysis-delivering practical guidance aligned to policy and informed by industry best practice.ย 
  • Deliver executive-ready reporting to leadership and governance forumsย 
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team ofย direct and/or virtualย risk professionalsย 
  • Strengthen risk culture and continuously improve how we operateย 
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in risk management (or related field), including experience of operating across various areas of a 3 Lines Model, and leading ERM initiatives and leadership reporting.ย 
  • Experience gained in a large, complex organization (matrixed, multi business, regulated, or capital intensive).ย 
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in risk, business, finance, accounting, or a related disciplineย 
  • Relevant professional certification (e.g., ERMCP, CRM, CRMP, ACA/ACCA/ICAS, CPA, CIA/CMIIA)ย 
  • Ability to provide expert risk advice and practical recommendations to stakeholders and leadershipย 
  • Strong communicationย skills-able to distil complex risk into clear, actionable insightย 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) and GRC systemsย 
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop team membersย 
  • Excellent planning and project management capabilityย 
  • A continuous improvement mindset, withย a track recordย of driving value-add outcomesย 
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to connect risk to strategyย
