Job description

How would you like to impact hundreds of millions of customers around the world and empower hundreds of engineers to build and ship new features each and every day? Mobile Shopping is one of the fastest growing strategic businesses within Amazon. Our team is responsible for creating the best shopping experience for customers wherever they go on their favorite Android and iOS devices. As an SDM within the Mobile App Foundations organization you will lead your team in building the next generation mobile foundation to power fast, fluid, and interactive experiences on mobile devices worldwide.
Amazon Shopping mobile engineers have a diverse range of skills and talents and we can't wait to harness your passion to make our team even stronger. We set and raise the bar on the mobile app shopping experience by building engineering frameworks, tools, and code used by thousands of developers across Amazon. We help Amazon teams discover and explore new ways for customers to complete common shopping tasks quicker, browse more efficiently, and discover new features. We think in terms of frameworks not features; stability, scaling, and performance over using technology to solve discrete problems.
About you:
You are a technical leader looking to build and expand on your passion for mobile devices. You want to challenge yourself to solve complex problems at scale that have never been encountered anywhere else. You want to exercise and expand your creative thinking skills and technical chops to become an even deeper expert in the mobile space. You are passionate about mobile and want to work with an equally passionate and driven team to invent new technologies to disrupt the world of application development on mobile devices. You want to learn from others and help challenge yourself and others to grow. You want to talk directly to your customers and partners to shape the vision for code quality, design and architecture for the mobile app development stack. You enjoy managing a team and helping engineers grow their skills.
About us:
We're going to change the way customers shop on mobile. Along the way, we're going to face challenging and interesting problems that no one else has seen. We'll leverage our camaraderie, diversity, and strong culture to break down walls to find solutions that challenge our original assumptions, make the hard decisions, and deliver a final product that's superior to the proposals we started with.
Interested? Have the passion to build - and drive to ship - all of this with us? We're waiting to talk with you. Let's do this!
Key job responsibilities
- Lead a team to accelerate mobile development
- Influence design and architecture by sharing your mobile application development expertise
- Participate in the full development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and software quality needs.
- Own the delivery of an entire piece of a system or mobile application, and serve as a technical lead on complex projects.
- Build software solutions where the problem is not well defined.
- Design and define the interaction between the solution components and other systems where applicable.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
